Media Technician - Food Testing Category: Life Science Employment Type: Contract Reference: BH-379118 Yoh Scientific is actively recruiting for the following entry-level contract assignment at a Food Testing company located in Columbus, Ohio. Title: Media Technician Location: Columbus, Ohio (on-site) Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday (start approximately 11am) Contract Duration: 7 months, with possibility of extension or hirer, but no guarantee Pay Rate: $18.50/hour Responsibilities: Prepare media and broth for use in pathogen testing as required Ensure that media and materials are prepared for the next testing sequence Prepare by recording, weighing, and blending materials Utilization of autoclave, balance and pH meter for media preparation Follow destroy/decontamination procedures when applicable Pipette sample solution into tubes or plates according to the analysis process being performed Pour media/agar into plates or tubes to begin the growth process Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process Perform necessary housekeeping duties in a timely manner, keeping the work areas and equipment clean and sanitized Must participate in cleaning schedule and maintain retain samples as required Adhere to all safety policies Responsibility to support laboratory management in the implementation maintenance, and improvement of the management system Perform other related tasks as needed Must behave and operate in an ethical and Code of Conduct compliant manner. Requirements: Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent required and strong work ethic with interested in learning laboratory skills. Associates degree or equivalent work experience and 1+ year relevant work would also be considered. Some basic knowledge of science to accurately perform job duties is preferred, but willing to train candidate who has strong work ethic and interest in starting a career in laboratory. Basic knowledge of computers is useful. Basic knowledge or ability to learn laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. Must have physical dexterity, time management / ability to prioritize and attention to detail to work in this fast-paced environment. Work Environment: The Media Technician will be working in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur. Safety equipment of gloves, laboratory coat and eyeglasses may need to be worn. The incumbent will be utilizing laboratory equipment daily such as pH meter, autoclave, balances, etc. May need to continuous lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds to transport media materials.
