All initial attorney positions to the Department of Justice are made on a 14-month (temporary) basis. Responsibilities This position is located in the Criminal Division, general crimes section, in our Greensboro office. Assignment includes serving as the primary point of contact for the investigation and prosecution of child sexual abuse and exploitation as the Project Safe Childhood Coordinator. Project Safe Childhood is the Department of Justice's comprehensive strategy to combat child exploitation. Additional duties for the position include the investigation and prosecution of human trafficking and cybercrime. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information. See www.sss.gov. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 3 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Outstanding academic record, criminal prosecution or defense experience in complex child exploitation sexual abuse investigations; litigation experience in trial and appellate advocacy; experience with the use of legal process (such as subpoenas and search warrants), especially in gathering electronic evidence; technical knowledge of computers, networking, and investigative technologies (such as tracing Internet communications); exceptional research and writing ability; the ability to represent successfully the interests of the United States in federal court; the ability to handle and manage effectively a heavy case load involving complex cases, and experience and/or interest in working with special victims. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement. Education Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction, in good standing), and have at least three (3) years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. Additional Information Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $77,953 to $189,771 which includes 16.82% locality pay.
