The Learning Manager is responsible for assessing the needs of the business in order to create and implement training solutions for our team members. This role is responsible for creating the future state of learning at Meijer as it relates to how learning content is created, delivered, managed and measured. The Learning Manager is responsible for prioritizing and implementing Workday learning releases and evaluating and implementing new Workday functionality or other new technologies. This role is also responsible for partnering with HR and business partners (Corporate, Supply Chain, Stores, Fresh Thyme) to identify learning needs and design, develop, and deploy curriculums and learning solutions to meet the needs.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Defines, monitors and continuously improves instructional design, delivery and learning impact methods and practices.

  • Leads the design, development, and deployment of e-learning and technology solutions that meet Meijer standards to ensure content is relevant, impactful, engaging and effective.

  • Leads the strategic planning process for the future state of training and development to ensure team members get what training they need, when and where they need it.

  • Identifies and monitors success metrics and ROI targets for training and development.

  • Scopes and defines compliance solutions minimizing legal and regulatory risk exposure. Partners with organization compliance officers to ensure accountability for compliance training.

  • Manages the implementation of outsourced technical learnings solutions and the relationship with vendors.

  • Consults with internal business partners (including Fresh Thyme and Market Format) to conduct an in-depth needs analysis and offer solutions in support of functional business objectives.

  • Responsible for the scoping and delivery of job-specific learning requirements. Examples include meat cutting, food safety, store grand opening training. Works with subject matter experts to design, develop curriculums and delivery appropriate learning solutions. May include vendor management where products are provided by a third party.

  • Manages Workday Learning administration, and continuous improvement of the Learning application through process improvement, new Workday releases, and implementation of new Workday functionality / applications.

  • Determines best methods for transfer of learning and applies these to the various learning needs. Uses appropriate technology to enhance ease of access and use.

  • Creates and leads the strategy for the digitization and mobilization of learning content and resources to ensure teams have what they need when and where they need it.

  • Oversees training and learning plans for new stores, including Market Format, Fresh Thyme, any conversion of Fresh Thyme stores to Marketing Format, and any future formats implemented by Meijer.

  • Leads continuous improvement of team member orientation to meet business needs, drive engagement, and increase retention.

  • Lead negotiations on behalf of the Learning team with outside e-learning developers and providers to ensure the most cost-effective pricing and customer-service level agreements are included in the contract.

  • Develops team members to improve job performance and assume positions of increasing responsibility.

  • Actively seeks out knowledge on advances in the learning and development field that improves the department’s methods and practices.

What You Will Bring with You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Information Systems or Related Field Required.

  • Certification in Criterion Referenced Instruction and /or Instructional Design.

  • Course Manager Certification in Building Better Job Aids, Criterion referenced Instruction, Instructional Module development.

  • 8+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities in Learning and Development, within a competitive setting including 5+ years of management experience in a large company 5+ years in project, program, or product management with focus on technical education programs, curriculum development, or instructional design.

  • Knowledge of professional learning, instructional design and transfer of learning.

  • Demonstrated experience in leveraging Agile processes and tools.

  • Superior performance consultative skills with demonstrated ability to work as a business partner.

  • Strong analytical management and diagnostic skills to assess gaps and make sound recommendations and decisions.

  • Proven success in the design and deployment of wide-reaching development initiatives that have improved business performance.

  • Proven ability utilizing various measurement tools to validate the effectiveness of learning solutions.

  • Proven ability utilizing a variety of learning solutions and technologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce results by leveraging resources, maintaining strong expense control and managing key initiatives effectively.

  • Ability to lead effectively in the midst of a high-growth, rapidly changing environment with multiple priorities.

  • Ability to simplify complex analysis to deliver comprehensible learning solutions.
