Job Title: DRUM Safety and Health Specialist

Location(s): Grand Junction, CO

Status: Full-Time

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Hiring Wage: $32.52/hr. ( The anticipated starting wage is based on the posted minimum requirements for this position. The offered wage will be based upon the selected applicant’s education, training, and experience.)

RSI is recruiting for a DRUM Safety & Health Specialist will assist with the implementation of the Worker Safety and Health Program throughout the Legacy Management Program interfacing with multiple departments. This position includes maintaining current knowledge of Federal and State safety and health regulations as they pertain to the LMS safety and health program, reviewing LMS safety and health requirements and hazard controls to provide input and oversight on field projects, and providing safety and health planning support at the project-level.

This position is required to travel 50% or more of the time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct work according to approved work plan, ensuring procedures are followed.

  • Provide real time safety evaluations and determinations in the field.

  • Assist in evaluating data, reviewing reports, and writing report sections.

  • Work with DRUM personnel in planning field activities.

  • Support other field data collection activities and perform Radiological walk over surveying.

  • Maintain detailed understanding of unique DRUM specific hazards and safety concerns.

  • Work with Team Leads for a cohesive approach to hazard assessment and maintaining paperwork associated with procedure or plan requirements, such as JSA’s, mine debrief forms, etc.

  • Evaluate data, review reports, and write report sections.

  • Immediately raise issues or concerns regarding safety and health symptoms. (i.e., dehydration, heat stress, etc.).

  • Ensure equipment and supplies are adequate and maintained appropriately to perform safety and health duties since the project is working in remote locations.

  • Provide radiological support.

  • Provide industrial hygiene support/sampling.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Years of Relevant Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or related field withless than 5 years’ experience required. Experience in lieu of education considered.

Required S kills and Abilities :

  • Proficient with MS Office suite products.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Experience in field work in various environmental conditions.

  • Knowledge and use of radiation and safety equipment or the ability to learn.

  • Must be willing to pursue safety certifications.

  • Department of Energy RCT training or ability to obtain certification.

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions precisely.

  • Effective organization and planning skills.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License

Desired Skills and Abilities :

  • CSP, ASP, OHST or equivalent preferred.

Essential Physical Requirements:

Medium: Work involves moving objects by exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an above-negligible amount and up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.
