New Product Development Supply Leader

The New Product Development Supply Lead is responsible for providing global supply chain leadership within product development from product strategy phase of a project and taking it through the post launch phase.

Working in coordination with Product Engineering and Global Strategic Commodity teams, you’ll identify supply chain requirements for the development and global launch of new products given quality, cost and schedule targets. You’ll provide direct material support for new products in supplier selection, early supplier involvement, commercial negotiation, as well as the procurement of prototype and production parts. This position will also support deployment of product development projects globally using Tennant’s product development phase gate process and support the development of organizational processes to improve program execution, speed, and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage with strategic suppliers in early supplier involvement initiatives and coordinate cross functional team activities.

  • Conceptualize, develop, and implement procurement strategies for purchased components to support assigned projects and ensure global strategic supply strategies are followed for all product development projects;

  • Lead request-for-quote process, negotiate volume-based pricing, create purchases orders and manage lead times and deliveries of purchased parts and assemblies to support proto-type builds, demo unit builds, and start of production.

  • Lead the resolution of blocking items related to supply chain during product development.

  • Support project team in executing supplier assessments, part qualification & approval process

  • Support project team in defining the supply chain capital tooling requirements

  • Support project / material control team in defining inventory model on purchased parts

  • Facilitate completing supply chain product development phase gate deliverables and keep project team updated with supply chain statuses

  • Own and lead supply chain strategic initiatives and continuous improvement activities.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Technology, Engineering or related fields

  • Minimum 5 years of work-related experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a cross-functional, new product development team environment

  • Ability to read, interpret and understand 2D engineering drawings and specifications

  • Demonstrated ability in applying project management skills and principles and successfully managing multiple tasks concurrently

  • Knowledge and exposure to the concepts of Lean and material flow

  • MS Office, SAP or related ERP experience
