    Hours:

    Full time 37.5 hours during Summer and School vacations

    27.5 hours during the School year

BASIC FUNCTION: Plan, organize and supervise recreational and educational activities for children ages 5-12 years in the School Age classroom.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Group Leader plans and organize a variety of enriching age-appropriate program activities in accordance with Department of Early Education and Care Licensing and QRIS requirements.

  • Must supervise to be aware of each child in his/her charge at all times and exercise appropriate supervision of the children to ensure their safety at all times.

  • Must be flexible and able to adjust to changing demands of the children

  • Responsible for assuring that the behavior management and guidance techniques of the Agency

  • are carried out

  • Assist children with homework assignments to support academic progress

  • Prepare necessary reports/forms as required by School Age Coordinator (example: attendance

  • reports, enrollment/termination forms, nutrition forms, etc.)

  • Responsible for the daily safety check of School Age building and other relevant areas including the

  • playground

  • The Group Leader assists in housekeeping tasks, food preparation adhering to the Child Care Food Program guidelines. Grocery shopping, clean up, including lifting and transporting cam brio units, coolers and dish bins as needed.

  • Inform School Age Coordinator of supplies and equipment needed by the Program

  • Plan and implement daily activities for the group in his/her charge utilizing Common Core Standards.

  • Observe and record children’s progress, prepare progress reports and meet with parents to discuss progress and goals for children.

  • Responsible for giving guidance and direction (training) to subs and volunteers

  • Attend team meetings to discuss and review building, staffing and children/families.

  • The Group Leader makes appropriate decisions to handle emergency situations or unscheduled events in an appropriate safe manner following program policies and procedures.

  • Work cooperatively to maintain professional relationships with co-workers, supervisors and other staff to promote programs goals and objectives.

  • Interpret the program to the public in cooperation with other staff.

  • Assume responsibility to work independently and meet program time lines to ensure a well run program.

  • Comply with the CC&HS Abuse and Neglect procedures.

  • Participate in at least 20 hours of training per year to comply with EEC and QRIS standards. . Enter all training/course work into Professional Qualification (P.Q.) registry. Renew P.Q. registry annually.

  • Enter child information, attendance and case notes in the program data management system

  • Check and respond to Agency email on a regular basis

  • Other duties as assigned within scope

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have at least one year’s experience in working with School Age children

  • Must have GED or High School diploma

  • Access to reliable transportation

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of children’s needs for ages 6-12 years;

  • counseling techniques, recreational activities and educational resources

  • Dependable and Flexible

  • Able to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to work with other adults and children

  • Willingness to attend job related trainings

  • Ability to follow directions

  • Exhibit cultural sensitivity

  • Bi-lingual staff must be able to speak, write and read in two languages, and assist with translations as necessary.

  • Possess reliable transportation

  • Fulfillment of all specific health and safety requirements (staff physical every two years, with evidence of Monteux and MMR test, OSHA, first aid and cpr)

  • Must have a suitable background record check

  • Must be in good physical and mental health and be able to lift children and/or work related equipment, walk, bend, sit on floor and climb stairs

  • Follow MOC policies and procedures as described in the Staff Handbook and Personnel Policies as well as the Head Start Program Performance Standards and Dept. of Early Education and Care regulations
