Job Description:

A Post-doctoral Associate position is available inINORGANIC CHEMISTRYto work in the group of Prof. George Christou in the Department of Chemistry as part of theCenter for Molecular Magnetic Quantum Materials(M2QM) led by the Department of Physics, University of Florida. Research within the M2QM Center ranges from the synthesis and characterization of emergent new molecular materials to a systematic computational understanding of their many-body quantum behaviors. Two primary technological challenges are being addressed: 1) how to create quantum bits (qubits) for intrinsically quantum computing, and 2) how to replace elements of traditional computers and sensors with intrinsically quantum, molecule-based devices that are energy efficient as well as fast and adaptive. Achieving these aims requires synergistic collaborations between computational scientists and experimental chemists and physicists.

The successful candidate will work within the Christou group on the synthesis and characterization by various spectroscopic and physical methods of molecular 3d and/or 4f coordination compounds and clusters that exhibit properties appropriate for the objectives of the Center: these properties span magnetic molecules and their supramolecular aggregates as potential multi-qubit systems; generation and study of superposition and entanglement states of two or more molecules that are exchange-coupled; spin transitions and magnetoelectric couplings in molecular magnetic systems, and decoherence of spin and clock transitions.

This position will be initially awarded for one year and, contingent upon strong performance and conduct and availability of funds, may be renewed for up to two years.

Expected Salary:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

Minimum Requirements: A PhD in Chemistry

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated extensive experience in synthetic inorganic chemistry in solution of 3d transition metals and lanthanides, crystallization of molecular compounds, and working knowledge of spectroscopic and physical techniques such as magnetochemistry, NMR, EPR, and electrochemistry. Prior experience in organic synthesis would be a significant plus.
