City of Frostburg Street Department Laborer in Frostburg, Maryland
Street Department Laborer is an entry level position in the Street Department. Primary responsibility will be collecting garbage and loading garbage into the garbage truck. Other duties will include general street and sewer repair and maintenance, and plowing snow. The position presents the opportunity to obtain a CDL license. The duties of the position are assigned by the Street Department Supervisor and will include nights, weekends, and holidays as required. The Street Department is generally responsible for the Citys sewer system, stormwater collection system, city roads, and garbage collection. This job is primarily outside and is exposed to weather conditions. Regular hours for this position are 7:00am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday. Examples of Duties
Primary Duty:Collect Garbage and be on the garbage truck. Three full days a week and two partial days will be on the garbage truck.
*Other Duties:* Preforms routine inspections of equipment and tools and refers defects to supervisor. Operates tucks and equipment of various sizes and weights. Mows/weed eats various properties that is owned by the City. Preforms tree trimming in the Alley's of the City. Snow removal for City Streets and parking lots, to include during nights, weekends, and holidays. Performs required labor involved in maintenance and construction. Including loading/unloading heavy materials/equipment. Frequently lift and move up to fifty pounds. Often several hundred times a day. Preforms any other duty as assigned by Supervisor.
Typical Qualifications
Education: HS diploma, GED or equivalent. Current Driver License (any state) or equivalent. Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening. Eligible and able to obtain a CDL within first six months. Perform heavy manual tasks for extended period of time. Able and willing to learn a variety of unskilled and skilled labor tasks for job progression. Ability to effectively communicate using written and oral English language.

*Primary Duty Expanded (garbage collection):* Main garbage collection days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for residential City residents and this is expected to be a full day on the truck. Monday and Friday the City cans are collected. The route should be around an hour. April to September yard waste collection is once a month on Monday. October and November yard waste collection is two times a month on Monday. January has two days of Christmas tree collection.
