Leidos Senior Scientist in Frederick, Maryland

The Life Sciences Division of the Leidos Health and Civil Sector is seeking to fill a contract vacancy for a senior scientist to support monitoring and communication of USAMRDC laboratories’ capabilities, requirements, and project and financial status to leadership and stakeholders. This position will be located in Frederick, Maryland.

U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret Clearance is required.

Candidate must be local and must be able to work onsite in Frederick, MD one day per week.

The senior scientist will provide support to the coordination and planning of chemical and biological defense research and development program activities, analysis and tracking of chemical and biological research program activities, and will interact with external and international partners. Activities will include analysis and reporting to support responses to short notice tasks, extensive planning, and coordination of strategic planning. Will be responsible for coordinating activities to ensure linkage between business and program plans with science and research objectives, including activities associated with the transition of research activities to advanced development. Will also coordinate research activities with international partners in accordance with data exchange agreements.

The senior scientist will provide scientific and technical analyses and administrative support to: (1) organize, arrange facilities for, provide scientific and analytical support for, and/or document, various meetings throughout the year, including project reviews, technical area meetings, or program briefings; (2) participate in various scientific meetings in the National Capital Region, and provide meeting summaries and reports; (3) organize and provide scientific and management support in preparation of program documents and scientific reviews, program briefings, reports, and interagency and international meetings; (4) prepare read-aheads, presentations, information papers, and administrative information for meeting participants for various scientific and decision meetings; (5) plan and coordinate meetings to identify and reconcile scientific and program issues; (6) prepare meeting summaries and after action reports for submission or presentation to senior military and government executives; (7) prepare reports, presentations, and information and issue papers for senior managers; (8) support interagency, international, industry, and academic coordination activities; (9) assist in planning and arranging management reviews and analyses of research and development activities.

Some local travel in the National Capital Region will be required, as well as occasional non-local travel.

Basic Qualifications:

REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: A Master’s degree in a relevant area of science and 5 years of experience in increasingly responsible medical research or research-related positions, with at least 2 years of recent experience in work with responsibilities similar to the senior scientist. Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition systems, FDA regulatory requirements, and other regulatory processes associated with DoD medical research. Demonstrated experience reviewing proposals and research projects.

Individual must demonstrate excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced professional environment with minimal supervision. Individuals must demonstrate ability to summarize complex issues and demonstrate excellent written communication skills, preferably through examples of relevant work products. Individuals must demonstrate excellent verbal communication, and the ability to interact easily and effectively with executives and program managers at all levels as well as staff. Individuals must demonstrate maturity and ability to interact with government representatives with appropriate respect and regard for protocol. Individuals must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Office applications and collaboration tools.

Preferred Qualifications: The following education, skills, or experience are desirable: (1) possession of a current security clearance; (2) experience working in a federal research program management office, especially within the Department of Defense; (3) familiarity with CBRN defense programs; (4) doctoral degree; (5) experience with preclinical and clinical development of medical products, including FDA regulatory processes, (6) understanding of DoD requirements processes (e.g., JCIDS), (7) familiarity with intellectual property and patent policies, regulations, and issues, (8) experience with federal laboratories, (9) familiarity with operation environment of BSL3 and 4 containment laboratories.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00
