U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Firefighter (Basic Life Support) in Fort Novosel, Alabama

Summary About the Position: Employee serves as a crewmember protecting life and property. Employee performs maintenance, operational, housekeeping, emergency, and standby duties. This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. Responds to fire alarms, natural gas leaks, wildland fires and fights fire requiring performance of firefighting tasks of moderate difficulty involving structures, equipment, facilities; crashed, burning aircraft; fuel, chemical, brush fires. Employee performs maintenance, operational, housekeeping, emergency, and standby duties. Operates radios, fire reporting systems, and computer modem for hazardous material information and performs maintenance tasks on firefighting apparatus, equipment, and facilities. The employee is a first responder to medical emergencies and performs emergency medical procedures that are noninvasive. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is an open continuous announcement. Applicants will be referred to selecting officials as vacancies occur. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) working as a fully trained member of a firefighting crew engaged in the protection of life and property; 2) respond to fires using firefighting and rescue techniques, equipment and extinguishing agents utilizing trained knowledge of firefighter theory and tools; AND 3) respond to contaminated and/or hazardous areas requiring the full performance of firefighting tasks to include: building ventilation, fire extinguishing, emergency medical service(s) (EMS) apparatus operation, protective performance techniques as needed in the event to protect life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, must be certified within the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Fire Fighter Certification system, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) at the Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), Emergency Medical Technician. NOTE: For each certification listed above, you MUST submit a copy with your application package or you will be rated in-eligible. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Medical Care Emergency Response Fire Prevention, Inspection, and Code Compliance Firefighting Equipment Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
