The Heavy Equipment Operator plays a crucial role within our organization by operating various types of heavy equipment. Under general supervision, you’ll follow established procedures while having the autonomy to determine how and when to complete tasks.

The Lee County Department of Transportation (DOT) is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation as well as maintaining stormwater systems for the residents of Lee County.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate spreader box to haul fill to various locations.

  • Operate dump truck to haul in various materials to stockpiles for use for other jobs, etc.

  • Also operate front end loader to load truck. MOT (maintenance of traffic) set up for each job for that day.

  • Maintain equipment for operation for that day.

Education, Experience, Licensing

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year of heavy equipment operation or closely related experience.

  • This position is safety-sensitive and subject to Drug & Alcohol Workplace testing as per DOT regulation 49CFR-parts 40 and/or 382.

Licenses

  • Possessing a valid Class B CDL with airbrake endorsement and an acceptable driving record is required.

  • Possession of IMOT certification or the ability to obtain the certification within six months of hire date is required. (Training and testing will be provided in-house).

Supplemental Information

  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with team members.

  • The work days and hours are Tuesday - Friday 7:00 am - 5:30 pm.
