Position Summary

University Housing custodians perform all custodial duties to maintain clean, safe, and sanitary conditions in and around the residence halls, apartments, and houses of University Housing. They should exhibit appropriate behavior in the workplace creating a respectful and inclusive work environment. They will participate in the augmentation of the division’s strategic plan, provide services that accomplish the department's core purpose and values, and provide services including direct communications with the customer.

With the guidance of the Housing Facilities Custodial Coordinator and Facilities Manager, this position makes decisions to prioritize work for greater productivity; selects appropriate supplies and equipment for best results; ensures resident concerns are reported/routed to proper channels; responds to customer questions; provides safety in the workplace to ensure the protection of self and others.

This position reports to a University Housing Facilities Manager and is led by a Facilities Custodial Coordinator. Work is reviewed regularly by the Facilities Custodial Coordinator and Facilities Manager. This is a full-time, 12-month position and shifts may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Typical duties may include:

Cleaning, sanitation, and light maintenance of assigned building area; complying with safety procedures; communicating with residents about custodial and maintenance issues, both orally and in writing; moving and arranging furniture for special functions; responding to emergency needs.

Special Requirement:

Valid driver's license and ability to obtain UO Driver's Certification for the purpose of driving University vehicles.

Essential Personnel:

This position requires the employee to make every reasonable effort to arrive at the campus at their regularly scheduled times during inclement weather and/or university closures unless otherwise notified by their supervisor or manager. This includes times when the university may be closed. Essential personnel must provide reliable and current contact information at all times.

Minimum Requirements

• One year of cleaning experience in commercial, residential, or industrial setting.
