Department Summary

The Mathematics Department in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oregon offers BS, BA, MS, MA, and PhD degrees in Mathematics. Instruction is provided by 32 tenure-line faculty, 14 career instructor faculty, and about 60 graduate employees. We teach large numbers of students from various units across campus.

Position Summary

The Mathematics Department invites applications for a part-time career instructor. Competitive applicants will be capable of outstanding teaching at all undergraduate levels, in both large and small classroom environments. The teaching load for a full-time instructor is ten classes per year spread out over three terms, with reductions available for teaching large or difficult courses; since this is a part-time position, the teaching load will be seven classes per year rather than ten. There is also an expectation of a limited amount of departmental service.

Minimum Requirements

• Advanced degree in mathematics, math education, or a related field.

Professional Competencies

• Ability to equitably assess student work.

• Ability to clearly communicate mathematical concepts to university students.

• Capacity for outstanding teaching at all undergraduate levels, in both large and small classroom environments.

• Teaching experience at the university level.
