Wildlife Biologist
Summary of Job Duties:
Primary responsibilities include leading or assisting with biological surveys and monitoring during construction activities for BLM rare/sensitive flora and fauna.
Biologist will also assist with other biological surveys, studies, and monitoring as required.
Job will include daily field work, preparation of daily findings report, submission and analysis of geospatial data.
The successful candidate must be proficient with standard Microsoft Office (e.g. MS Word/MS Excel) and Adobe Acrobat applications, and have excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
Candidate must be self-motivated and able to work successfully as part of a field team and independently.
Candidate must be able and willing to perform work as described above in remote, rugged, and harsh (very hot/very cold) conditions.
Candidate must have a clean driving record and a valid driver’s license.
Candidate must have a fieldwork capable vehicle or be able to rent a truck to use in the field.
Candidates must live in or be willing to temporarily relocate to Rawlins, Wyoming; northwestern Colorado; and/or eastern Utah.
Job duties may also include one or more of the following requirements: construction area flagging, avian/raptor surveys, vegetation surveys, threatened and endangered species habitat screening, wetland identification, noxious and invasive plant surveys.
General Experience Requirements:
2-4 years of experience in natural resources including experience working outdoors in remote areas, preferably southern Wyoming, northwestern Colorado, and/or eastern Utah
BA/BS in biology, ecology, botany or other natural resource related field
Experience with BLM Sensitive Plant surveys preferred
Excellent migratory bird identification skills preferred
Experience in raptor behavior as well as excellent raptor-identification skills and ability to identify raptor species visually and calls preferred.
Previous highway, pipeline, or transmission line experience as a field biologist or biological monitor preferred.
