County Of Sherburne Public Service Specialist - Planning & Zoning in Elk River, Minnesota

Job Summary Under general supervision of the Office Supervisor, this position is responsible for initial review of building permits, scheduling building inspections and assisting the public with answering a wide variety of questions concerning building permits and land use issues while providing a high level of customer service to landowners, contractors, various officials and the public. Assist with clerical, receptionist and technical support for the department. This position is based out of the Sherburne County Government Center in Elk River, MN with business hours of Monday-Friday, 8:00a - 4:30p. These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Perform Initial review of building and land use permits for compliance with the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances. Initiate the permit process and track review progress, finalize the process after staff reviews completed, provide permit holder with necessary paperwork and information including the inspection process. Coordinate inspections with building inspectors. Research compliance utilizing ArcView, Beacon and Zoning Office Permit software programs. Assist landowners, contractors, realtors, and others in person and by telephone with a wide range of questions and problems advising on the necessary criteria to meet the ordinances, building code and septic system rules. Communicate with Building Inspectors and Building Official on Building permit reviews and inspections, as well as Office Supervisor to ensure efficient systems for building permits. Manage the septic compliance program. Research septic information, and utilize the Zoning Office Permit Software Program and the database to fulfill septic requests. Close out building permits, issue certificate of occupancy, and document required information. Accept various payments for the office and receipt to the appropriate accounts. Balance receipts on a daily and monthly basis. Perform clerical, secretarial and technical office duties. Maintain and update the office calendar for scheduling and attendance. Assist with typing of letters, documents and form setup. Maintain and place office supply orders. Assist with researching archived and scanned data. Open and distribute incoming mail, meter outgoing mail. Balance daily receipts. Attend meetings, training & education as directed to maintain professional competency.
