Water Process Engineer

Moray House, Elgin

2 year FTC/Secondment

End Date to apply: 14th July 2024

Monday – Friday 35 hours per week

Travel to various sites in the Elgin and Speyside areas is required for this role; Diageo will provide a pool car for this.

Your Impact on this Role

We are seeking a dedicated Process Engineer to join our technical team based in Scotland, reporting to the Sustainability Manager.

This role, which does not have direct reports, is integral to achieving our goal of enhancing water efficiency across our Scotch category operational footprint by 2030.

You will collaborate closely with site operations, Global Project Engineering, and business partnering functions, leading and supporting a variety of projects aimed at significant water efficiency improvements across our 32 distilleries, 4 maltings, 1 bottling hall, and our maturation and coopering footprint.

Your responsibilities will include continually providing technical insights to enhance existing water improvement technology, driving water efficiency while considering cost, environmental, and energy targets.

Additionally, you will benchmark both internally and externally to discover new technical insights that push the boundaries of performance.

Building and maintaining relationships with other functional stakeholders within the Scotch category, such as operations, finance, human resources, risk & governance, and procurement, will be crucial in delivering comprehensive solutions to our challenges.

  • Exhibit an uncompromising drive to achieve step change sustainability performance in water efficiency.

Problem Solving for Performance:

  • Support continuous improvement and problem-solving activities by applying technical knowledge and experience in a logical and structured manner using data and analytics techniques and tools.

  • Coach stakeholders and customers to enhance technical understanding and capability.

  • Promote a growth mindset towards problem-solving and empower individuals to take ownership.

  • Serve as a role model and advocate for the use of data and analytics tools and systemic root cause problem-solving tools within the Scotch category.

  • Recognise the need for and form multi-disciplinary problem-solving teams to tackle systemic issues.

About you

We are looking for a candidate with a degree in Chemical Engineering.

The ideal candidate will have experience in leading and delivering projects within a functional team, working in partnership, and demonstrating excellent engagement and communication skills.

Proficiency in statistical analysis tools is essential.

While not required, experience with Lean/Six Sigma qualifications or methodologies is advantageous.

Additionally, a full, clean driving license is a critical requirement for this role.
