WSP USA Signals Engineer-in-Training in Edmonton, Alberta

The Opportunity:

WSP is excited to welcome multiple Rail Systems EITs to join our Rail and Transit team in Calgary and Edmonton! In this role, you'll have the opportunity to work collaboratively with a team of highly skilled Chief Engineers and Specialists across a variety of rail and transit disciplines, including Systems Engineering, Signals, Electrification Systems, Data Communications, and Project Controls, as well as Analysts and Coordinators.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Under the guidance of a Senior Signals engineer, implement signals design for wayside devices, train control systems, and the underlying application logic

  • Participate in validation & verification activities and produce test procedures and contribute to any troubleshooting;

  • Develop Bill of Materials and Bill of Quantity reports;

  • Produce design reports, drawings, and system specifications; and

  • Perform all other assigned or required duties

What you’ll bring to WSP:

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related engineering discipline from an accredited University that is recognized by the Professional Engineers of Alberta;

  • Registered as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with the Professional Engineers of Alberta or P.Eng. License, or the ability to register with APEGA though inter-provincial mobility agreements;

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven ability to work successfully in multi-disciplinary teams;

  • Experience with the engineering design process at different phases, and

  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering standards such as ISO/IEC 15288 and IEEE 1220;

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • The following experience would be considered an asset:

  • Systems integration, verification, and validation

  • Previous experience in Systems Integration for complex Rail & Transit project is an asset;

  • Experience in Verification and Validation (test plan, test case, FAT, SAT, PICO) would be an asset;

  • Certificates or additional training in design tools (CAD, Revit, Bentley Products)

  • Basic knowledge of Train Signaling principles, SCADA, Communications, Systems Assurance (RAM), Safety Assurance, Vehicle and Wayside Interfaces, Traction Power, Power Supply and Distribution, Mechanical, System and Train Simulation, Tunnels, or Fire Life Safety Systems will be an asset;

  • Able to travel domestically to support proposals, projects and Client’s needs;

  • Strong communication skills, presentation skills, and report writing skills;

  • Experience in a Consulting Engineering environment is an asset.
