Michigan State University(MSU) Specialist - Teacher-Fixed Term in East Lansing, Michigan

Position Summary

The Department of Community Sustainability (CSUS) at Michigan State University is considering candidates for a 12 month, 100% appointment, fixed-term teaching specialist in the area of Community Sustainability. The successful candidate will teach up to 6 courses per academic year, with additional possibilities over the summer. This individual will contribute to the department's efforts to assess student learning outcomes of its undergraduate and graduate curricula. We seek a colleague who embraces the Department's core value of community engagement and will bring the scholarship of sustainability on issues challenging communities across Michigan, the U.S. and the world.

Duties include: (a) developing and delivering high quality classroom instruction tied to curriculum, learning outcomes; (b) helping develop and implement approaches to assess student achievement of learning outcomes across the Department's curricula. The successful candidate will prepare to teach at least one course in the core curriculum. Specific teaching duties will depend on the successful candidate's strengths and the department's needs. Required Degree

Masters -Community Sustainability or closely related

Desired Degree

Doctorate -Community Sustainability or closely related

Minimum Requirements
  • MS/MA (PhD preferred) in a relevant discipline;
  • Potential for successful teaching in the sustainability core curriculum;
  • Evidence of at least 3 years of professional teaching experience in higher education; and
  • Demonstrated interest in community engagement and collaborative and interdisciplinary teaching and learning research.
