Position Summary

Pre-award Administration

  • Assist with preparation of background information for research proposals, oral presentations, and writing/editing research proposals.

  • Assist with grant and budget development, including preparation of budgets and budget justifications to include review of current and planned salaries and effort of budgeted personnel.

  • Coordinate timely submission of proposals with MSU Office of Sponsored Programs and to prospective sponsors to meet deadlines.

  • Assist in coordination of multi-partner proposals, including co-investigator agreements and data-use agreements.

  • Functions as a member of the team to assemble research proposals; reviews grant proposals for completeness and accuracy

Research Support

  • Assist other research administrators and staff to meet project development needs, including the recruitment of staff and graduate students.

  • Serve as liaison between sponsors/funding sources and primary investigators (PIs), including assisting with the preparation of quarterly reports to sponsors

  • Participate in other supportive processes, including management of travel for CPR staff, project use and reporting of vehicle, acting as a point of contact for external organizations and media.

  • Assist in management of facilities and equipment, including overseeing purchase of all CPR supplies and equipment.

  • Assist with compiling/summarizing data and relevant literature for reports and technical articles.

  • Assist with preparing/editing documents and manuscripts for publication in popular magazines, book chapters, and scientific journals.

  • Assist in coordinating weekly CPR activities, such as lab meetings.

Post-award Administration

  • Assist with administration of budgets, including monitoring expenditures and budget analysis, to ensure project management is in accord with policies of the sponsor and MSU.

  • Assist with annual planning for staff salaries across funded projects.

  • Assist in management of grants, including tracking payments and invoicing sponsors, establishing subaward or other agreements in conjunction with CPR administrative support

  • Coordinate with various offices, to establish the initial appointment of graduate students, post

doctoral associates, and manage the ongoing appointment process.

Project Closeout and Compliance Supervision

  • Manages project account closeout activities in conjunction with CPR administrative support; develops final reports and provides analysis of project logistics.

  • Plans for closeout projections and organizes closeout procedures with PI and CPR administrative support as needed.

  • Works with PI to submit final reporting by established deadlines.

  • Provide organizational oversight for compliance with the Institutional Animal Care and Use (IACUC) and Human Protection Institution Review Board (IRB); ensure compliance with university travel regulations.

Provide oversight for compliance with training policies for Responsible Conduct of Research

Communications

Ensures website it up to date, and coordinates with University, AgBio Research communication team to promote news stories related to Center and member activities

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration, Finance, or a research-related field: one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research administration including the area of pre- or post-award processes, or related field such as regulatory administration or an equivalent completion of Essentials of Research Administration (MSU Certificate) or equivalent within one year of hire.
