Position Summary

The Michigan State University School of Journalism is seeking to hire an Instructor (Professor of Practice) who can teach and provide curricular leadership in the areas of photojournalism, video journalism, and visual storytelling. 

 

Professors of practice typically teach four courses per semester. For this position, the School is anticipating possible course releases to engage in community-engaged creative work, career pathway programs (mentoring high school students through their journey through and beyond MSU), national or international leadership in rethinking photojournalism, video journalism, and visual storytelling practices, and/or collaborative projects with research faculty.

 

Applicants should indicate both (1) their abilities to teach photojournalism, video journalism, and visual storytelling courses and (2) the kinds of projects that would merit course releases.

 

There will be opportunities to teach in both the Journalism and Digital Storytelling majors in the School of Journalism.

 

Ideal candidates will have substantial professional photojournalism, video journalism, and/or visual storytelling experience, a national or international record of industry recognized professional visual storytelling work, experience working with high school youth interested in media career exploration, and experience with college-level instruction.

Required Degree

Masters -Journalism or related field.

Minimum Requirements
  1. Master's degree in journalism or related field. 
  2. Substantial professional photojournalism, video journalism, and/or visual storytelling experience.
  3. A national or international record of industry recognized professional visual storytelling work.
  4. Experience working with high school youth interested in media career exploration, and experience with college-level instruction.
