Who we’re looking for:

Wolfspeed’s Materials Business is seeking aa high potential, resourceful, hands-on, problem solving Process Sustaining Engineer with the capacity to quickly grasp and resolve a wide range of technical challenges. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast paced, deadline-oriented high-volume manufacturing environment and work constructively with a cross-functional team of manufacturing personnel, engineers and technicians. The individual in this role will focus on process control, process optimization, process development, yield improvement, cycle time improvement, cost reduction, process qualification, raw material qualification, expansion projects, new tool installation and qualification. This position will be based in Durham, NC manufacturing site.

Job Summary

  • Materials Business is seeking a high potential, resourceful, hands-on, problem solving Graphite/Raw Materials Engineer with the capacity to quickly grasp and resolve a wide range of technical challenges.
  • The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast paced, deadline-oriented high-volume manufacturing environment and work constructively with a cross-functional team of manufacturing personnel, engineers, scientists, technicians, & with external suppliers.
  • The individual in this role will focus on raw material IQC, supporting process and product engineer troubleshooting of material impact on process performance, drive risk reduction through additional source qualifications, and transferring new processes from R&D to production.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring, characterization, troubleshooting, and qualifying various raw materials, and investigating their impact to quality, yield, and cost of the SiC substrate production process.
  • This position will be based at the Durham, NC manufacturing site.  Some travel may be required to suppliers and other Wolfspeed manufacturing sites.

Job Ownership/Actions:

  • Define control parameters, develop and maintain data monitoring of raw material processes to rapidly detect and act upon process variations to increase process repeatability to achieve higher yields, lower costs, higher flexibility, and a safe work environment.
  • Own raw material IQC processes & characterization equipment, driving deviation resolution through appropriate data driven decisions. 
  • Initiate, manage, and participate in projects to improve quality, yield, and manufacturability of raw materials for the SiC manufacturing process through data driven decisions.
  • Interface with suppliers to drive qualification of new raw materials and supplier processes through monitored impact on SiC product.
  • Interface with suppliers to troubleshoot & resolve raw material driven yield and quality issues.
  • Work with R&D team to define, qualify, and transition new materials and/or processes from research through development to production.
  • Apply good engineering practices to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Define, train, qualify, and lead process changes with salaried and hourly staff to ensure repeatability, reproducibility, and control.

What you need for success: (Minimum qualifications-quantifiable qualifications)

  • Willingness to work with graphite material processing not in a cleanroom environment.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
  • 5+ years Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment troubleshooting material, equipment, or process impact on product quality and yield.
  • Excellent overall computer and analytical skills
  • Excellent MS Office skills
