Position Overview

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The School of Business is the university’s third largest academic unit serving

approximately 900 students. It offers academic programs at the Graduate

and Undergraduate levels supported by the MBA Program, Student

Professional Development (SPD) and five Academic Departments.

These Departments include Accounting; Business Administration;

Computer Information Systems; Decision Sciences, Economics, Finance;

and Hospitality and Tourism Administration.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Director of Student Professional Development will provide strategic

planning and management necessary to support successful oversight of

student career readiness and placement programs. The director

reports directly to the Dean of the School of Business.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate will have experience working in higher education

with students, student groups and career counseling. Experience

developing programs, working with others on a team based approach.

Proficiency in computer systems.

Minimum Education/Experience

Master’s degree in Business, Counseling, Career Counseling, Student

Affairs, Higher Education or related field. Demonstrable experience

working with students, student groups, experience in program

management and professional development. Excellent interpersonal

and communicationskills are a requirement.

  • Provide vision and strategic direction for the Office of Professional Development.

Student Services

  • Create and facilitate meaningful opportunities for professional and career development via workshops, seminars, and other activities.

  • Develop and implement student centered programming to include, career planning and exploration, resume preparation, mock interviewing, and career counseling.

  • Supervise and coordinate mentoring and coaching programs

  • Supervise and coordinate all staff, programs, and activities to ensure the highest quality service to students, alumni and businesses.

  • Assist students with internship placement and supervision.

Function Administrative

Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

Administration

  • Assist in data collection, the preparation and publication of the annual Career Placement, Graduate Transfer Report and weekly Newsletter.

  • Additional responsibilities assigned as needed by the Dean.

Building Consensus and Partnerships

  • Develop and maintain partnerships and relationships with industry and alumni to ensure maximum opportunities for students.

  • Provide guidance and career counseling on applying for graduate school fellowships, internships & Coop opportunities;

Function Information Technology

Technology

  • Ensure that career information and resources are current and made available to students, such as through the on-line job locator, the Career Planning website, and other electronic and hard-copy media;
