The Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Division is looking to add a Substance Use/Misuse Specialist to their growing team! This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with communities experiencing disparate rates of substance use disorder and overdose, including but not limited to the Black/African American communities.

Primary Job Duties:

• Co-create systems with community partners to analyze, monitor, and administer state and federal grant funds pertaining to substance use, misuse, overdose prevention, and social determinants of health associated with substance use.

• Monitoring grant progress through agreed-upon methods and means.

• Engaging in problem-solving efforts in partnership and following all relevant state and federal policies and procedures for outgoing grants.

• Working with the Lead Worker to properly assist all grantees.

Minimum Qualifications

The following minimum qualifications must be clearly demonstrated on the applicant’s resume/application to be considered for this position.

Two (2) years of working experience in the following:

• Community engagement strategies and methods to effectively work with culturally diverse communities.

• Public health approaches to address and prevent the negative impacts of drug overdose and morbidity.

• Culturally relevant approaches to drug overdose prevention.

• Best practices for analyzing, adapting, and evaluating drug overdose prevention using a health equity lens.

• Working with various clientele, including but not limited to, state agencies, community collaboratives, community-based organizations, local health departments, and individuals affected by substance use disorder.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with program administration; monitoring and reporting program activities, performance, and budget.

• Ability to identify / evaluate information and develop policy and program management recommendations and to conceptualize alternative solutions to complex issues and convey them to diverse audience

• Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative analysis sufficient to evaluate program information and reports, diagnose problems and research alternative methods of service.

Additional Requirements

The selected candidate will be required to successfully pass a background check and employment reference check. There is travel associated with this position and the selected candidate will be responsible for transportation.
