Division of Facilities Management - Northern Division

The Division of Facilities Management exists to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and manage the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses according to all applicable standards in a manner that promotes the CDHS mission of providing safe, sanitary and effective environment for clients, youth, residents, consumers and staff and enhances the quality of life in CDHS facilities and campuses and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Facilities served: Colorado Mental Health Hospital at Fort Logan (CMHHFL), Department of Human Services (DHS) (1575 Sherman St.), Wheat Ridge Regional Center (WRRC) to include the group homes and Division of Youth Services (DYS) facilities (Prairie Vista, Gilliam, Lookout Mountain Campus, Marvin W. Foote, Mount View Campus and Platte Valley.) Provides as needed support to the Veterans Community Living Center located in the district. Total facilities are approximately 1.9 million sq. ft. at multiple sites within the Northern Region.

Description of Job

The position exists to repair and maintain the northern district fleet and implement vehicles to include but not limited to cars, trucks, buses, heavy equipment and all grounds related support equipment. Also, this position is responsible for minor equipment overhaul, diagnosis and troubleshooting problems within the fleet and grounds equipment inventories. This position performs scheduled emergency generator testing and maintenance in conformance with all NFPA requirements.

Duties:

  • Diagnose vehicle/equipment malfunctions, and recommend/perform appropriate repairs to meet or exceed automotive standards.

  • Perform all repair requests from customers, i.e. lube oil filters, brake inspections and replacements, steering suspension work, engine performance, tire replacement and balance, transmission services, coolant flushes, belt and hose inspection/replacement, charging systems and electrical repairs, and vehicle detailing.

  • Examine vehicles/equipment to identify necessary repairs and/or safety items that may not be included on the repair order, and communicate details to the Supervisor.

  • Maintain, inspect and repair all grounds equipment.

  • Clearly and accurately document all work performed in Maximo, and produce work orders for all fleet vehicles in CARS.

  • Conduct inventories on gasoline, oil, tires, batteries, mechanical parts and garage supplies using multiple inventory programs. Maintain current inventory of hazardous waste to ensure proper disposal and order necessary parts and supplies to complete mechanical work.

  • Provide the highest degree of customer service by managing the Fleet process, in compliance with CDHS policies and procedures.

  • Inspect fleet vehicles to ensure their cleanliness, safety equipment is in proper working order, and fluid levels are at appropriate levels to maintain safety for the customers.

  • Inspects existing vehicles for damage and notify Supervisor of any problem areas.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all vehicles have the correct documentation for file retention, verify items that need repair/replacement, and expedite the vehicles to ready status.

  • Snow removal

  • Performs other duties as assigned

    This is a full-time, in-person, essential position that is required to respond in person to call backs after hours to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency in a timely manner. Shift work may be required.

    Essential Positions. Positions that perform essential law enforcement, highway maintenance, and other support services directly necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of patients, residents, and inmates of state institutions or state facilities. Employees in essential positions can be only FLSA non exempt and can be required to work unexpected or unusual work hours to perform the essential and/or emergency services of the department without delay and/or without interruption.

    Call Back applies when an eligible employee is required to report to work before the start or after the end of a scheduled shift. If there is no release from work between the call back hours and regular shift, it is considered a continuation of the shift and call back does not apply. When call back applies, a minimum of two (2) hours of the employee’s regular base pay is guaranteed. Eligible employees are those who are eligible for overtime, and any call back time is counted as work time.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have at least two years of experience diagnosing, servicing and repairing vehicles.

Substitutions:

Education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program that relates to this position will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.In order to utilize this substitution, you must attach a copy of your transcripts/apprenticeship to this job application. Your unofficial transcripts/certification of completion must include your name, college/school name, type of degree/certification received and date the degree/certification was received/conferred.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification (attach certification to your application);

  • Experience servicing small engine and small equipment (e.g. lawnmowers, gas powered blowers, trimmers, etc.);

  • Experience in Colorado Automotive Reporting System (CARS);

  • Experience servicing diesel powered emergency generators;

  • Experience servicing diesel powered light trucks "one ton or below".

    Conditions of Employment:

  • A full pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges.

  • Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

  • Travel – This position will be required to drive State Vehicles as part of daily work assignment from site to site equipped with tools to perform daily duties. May be required to travel to training and meetings.

  • Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.

  • Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.

  • Must be available for call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay and/or without interruption..

  • Must be available for shift work. May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours.

  • Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials – Explain: Proximity to moving, mechanical parts, Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals., Exposure to electrical shock, and or working in high exposed places.

  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
