Stetson University Mental Health Counselor AS9770 in DeLand, Florida

Position Summary:

Stetson University is seeking a full-time (12-month) Mental Health Counselor, who is a licensed Florida professional (LMHC, LMFT, or LCSW) or a licensed registered intern to join our dynamic, diverse, and creative team. This individual will provide mental health counseling to college students on a beautifully breathtaking sunny campus. This position will provide services at Stetson University's Student Counseling Services and reports directly to the Director of Student Counseling Services. The Mental Health Counselor will have the opportunity to engage cooperatively with the campus at large, especially the Campus Life and Student Success (CLaSS) division via exciting and rewarding student connection events. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Primary responsibility is to provide individual and group counseling and/or psychotherapy, assessment, crisis intervention, and on-call services to a diverse population of Stetson students and provide direct clinical services.

  • Provide consultation services to student groups, faculty, and staff within the university.

  • Use electronic programs (such as internet services, Titanium Schedule, CCAPS Assessments, and Microsoft Outlook) and other tools to enhance the efficacy of Student Counseling Services' work.

  • Collaborate with other departments within the division and university.

  • Serve in the on-call rotation 24/7 for one week per month, during which the counselor stays within 40 minutes of campus.

  • Support and implement University and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Perform other assigned functions that contribute to the Student Counseling Services' service offerings and the institution's academic mission.

Required Skills

  • Support the University's Mission and Values in their role.

  • Be efficient at using computer programs, such as Titanium, Microsoft Outlook and Word, and Teams.

  • Experience with best practices as it relates to providing mental health services.

Required Experience

Required Qualifications: This position requires:

  • Be licensed to practice independently (LMHC, LMFT, LCSW) or be a registered licensed intern in the State of Florida

  • Have experience working with diverse college populations and preferred minimum one year working experience on a college campus.

  • Have had appropriate course work at the graduate level, through an accredited program in their discipline, and demonstrate knowledge and skills in psychological assessment, theories of personality, abnormal psychology or psychopathology, human development, learning theory, counseling theory, and/or other subjects relevant to the college student population.

  • Be willing to serve on call 24/7 once a month (on average) for one week, during which time they stay within 40 minutes of campus.

  • Acknowledge that while most of this position's time is in the office during regular weekdays, that some evenings and weekend workshops and outreach will be necessary.

  • Have personal attributes that enable the Counselor to facilitate effective interpersonal relationships and communicate with many students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

    Ideal Candidate Qualifications: The ideal candidate's qualifications include:

  • Be licensed to practice independently (LMHC, LMFT, LCSW) for at least two years according to the regulations of the State of Florida; must provide documentation of licensure.

  • Minimum one year working on a college campus.

  • Knowledge of best practice interventions for college mental health.
