The Apple Services Engineering (ASE) Data Search & Performance team is looking for extraordinary engineers to design and build best of breed systems for dealing with our complex and ever-growing data and search needs. We are a key part of the Apple ecosystem, supporting millions of users and billions of queries. We're looking for someone ready to work at huge scale and have a hand in bringing amazing new products and services to market.

Description

The ASE engineering team supports tens of millions of pieces of content in more than 150 markets enjoyed by hundreds of millions of users. Our backend systems power various features within Apple client applications: App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV+, iTunes, iBooks, Fitness, Podcasts, etc. We have unique and growing needs for data storage and consumption. You will help building next generation search infrastructure and platform services, collaborating cross-functionally with various ASE teams, from store and commerce to search and recommendations. You’ll create platforms that can rapidly scale to serve personalized and non-personalized data with very low latencies. You should be someone who is not afraid to question assumptions, are a good team player under tight deadlines, and can tackle problems with elegant technical solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of professional software development experience in Java and/or C++ with a strong Experience with at least one scalable search platform like Solr, ElasticSearch, or OpenSearch

  • Experience designing and implementing RESTful API and services

  • Strong production debugging and performance tuning skills

  • Strong understanding of data architecture and related problems

  • Experience working on complex problems and distributed systems where scalability and performance are extremely important (every millisecond counts)

  • Should be independent and able to effectively work with cross functional teams

  • Experience with compute/container platforms such as K8s is preferred

  • Experience in distributed data store replication and queuing systems like Kafka is a plus

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or equivalent

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $170,700 and $300,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
