Minimum/Required Qualifications PhD in biology At least 3 years of experience performing remote fieldwork on birds, especially in high elevation or otherwise extreme environments, including use of diverse tracking technologies, collection of life history data, collection of blood samples and mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students in the field. Position Duties The expected duties break down approximately as: 50% fieldwork and data collection of bird responses to storms and other challenging environmental conditions in the Cascade mountains, Grand Teton mountains and additional sites, as determined by the incumbent in collaboration with the PI. Data collection includes active telemetry, blood sampling, banding and monitoring of nests and may require the incumbent to remain in remote locations for up to two months at a time. The aim of this research is to describe how birds behave during storms and determine if different decisions lead to different fitness outcomes and if different physiological traits underlie the decisions that are made. 30% data analysis, manuscript preparation and grant writing. The incumbent is expected to lead authorship on 1 or more manuscripts resulting from the field data collected and to contribute to other manuscripts and grant writing efforts to extend funding for the position. 10% assistance with aviary management and captive experiments. 10% participates in diversity initiatives, student mentorship and day camps.
