Reporting to the Director of the Application Team, the Assistant Director recruits and works to enroll qualified students for admission to the school in accordance with all applicable internal and external policies and regulations. This Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing the Premier Scholarship and Special Programs selection process for all first-year undergraduate applicants. They will have the opportunity to establish strategic relationships with internal and external constituents who collaborate to select the most qualified applicants. Up to 6-8 weeks of domestic travel in the fall and 4 weeks in the spring will be required. This includes occasional evening and weekend commitment especially during specific times of the year between September and May. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Explains educational programs, student outcomes, campus services, and financial considerations to students, parents, and educators2. Serve as a member of our Application Team, including overseeing the selection of Premier Scholarship and Special Program recipients. 3. Be accountable for special projects under the supervision of manager 4. Makes prompt and effective contact with prospective and admitted candidates through returned phone calls and emails5. Secures personally developed inquiries by obtaining the contact information of those that may be interested in programs offered via off-campus events and campus visits6. General office duties, which include rotating with other counselors in serving as “Admission Officer of the Day” (meet with walk-in visitors, set up Visit Center, and give presentations to guests)7. Participates in off-campus events to move prospective students through the pipeline (including high school/community college visits, college fairs, and yield events)8. Evaluate undergraduate applications for admission based on the University’s recruiting goals and standards9. Counsel important stakeholders: parents, applicants, and school counselors regarding the University of Miami’s admission policies and procedures10. Attend on-campus admission events (open houses, admitted student events…)11. Appropriately utilizes Slate (Technolutions) and PowerFaids platforms12. Possess a valid driver’s license and ability (as well as willingness) to drive when necessary

The Assistant Director must possess excellent presentation, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills. The person must have the ability to work independently, as well as with teams of colleagues, and possess the aptitude for detail-oriented tasks. The Assistant Director must also possess strong time management skills, a sense of humor, and can prioritize and balance responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience. Experience within higher education strongly preferred. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form, including giving presentations• Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure• Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships, both internally and externally • Ability to understand and follow instructions
