Under the supervision of the Head Scaler and Resource Manager, the Second Scaler / Trainee assists in scaling logs in accordance with the rules of the U.S. Forest Service scaling handbook FSH2409.11 using the Scribner Decimal C Scale Rule, evaluates logs for quality and conformation with log manufacturing specifications, as well as performing all functions of a Log Yard Operator. This job is on the job training for the right individual. Wage is DOE and ability to learn the position. D. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:1.Uses scale rule and tape to determine gross scale in logs and deduct for defects, resulting in net scale in accordance with the rules of the U.S. Forest Service scaling handbook FSH2409.11 using the Scribner Decimal C Scale Rule. Maintains Idaho Board of Scaling Practices Licensed Scaler status a verification of scaling proficiency.2.Enters scale in data logger. Facilitates transfer of data and edits data for errors.3.Evaluates individual logs for quality control and defects. 4.Communicates with Head Scaler, Resource Manager and Foresters on log quality issues in a timely manner. 5.Unloads logs from logging trucks and spreads loads for scaling. 6.Cleans up debris around log yard. 7.Sorts logs by species with log loader or front-end loader.8.Decks logs according to species and size.9.Feeds logs to infeed of sawmill.10.Reloads logs on trucks.
