PNC Software Engineer Senior - Lead Technical API and Kafka Engineer - in Cleveland, United States

As a Software Engineer Senior within PNC's [name of division] organization, you will be based in Strongville-OH, Cleveland-OH or Pittsburgh -PA.

PNC is seeking an experienced Lead Technical Engineer specializing in API development and Kafka implementation to drive innovation in our software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have expertise in CI/CD practices, Kafka architecture, Spring Boot REST API development, and OpenShift Container Platform (OCP). This role combines technical leadership in API development, Kafka implementations, and OpenShift Container Platform, making it ideal for candidates with a strong background in modern software development practices and containerized environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and maintain scalable REST APIs using Spring Boot and related frameworks.

Architect and manage Kafka-based event-driven systems for high-throughput data processing.

Implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins for efficient API and microservice delivery.

Manage and automate deployments on OpenShift Container Platform (OCP).

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate APIs and Kafka streams into various applications.

Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to ensure high-quality deliverables.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to API performance and Kafka message processing.

Required Skills:

Extensive experience with Enterprise Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and RESTful API design principles

Expertise in Kafka architecture, implementation, and best practices

Proficiency in CI/CD tools and DevOps methodologies, particularly Jenkins and pipeline automation

Strong knowledge of cloud-based Kubernetes platforms, especially OpenShift Container Platform (OCP)

Experience with API Gateways and service mesh concepts

Experience with API security protocols like OAuth, JWT, and SSL

Proficiency in version control systems (e.g. Bitbucket, GitHub)

Experience with microservices architecture and design patterns

Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies

Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities

Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB) and distributed caching systems (e.g., Redis)

Knowledge of end-to-end tracing and observability tools and application performance monitoring

Experience with tools like SonarQube

Job Description

  • Prepares technical and procedural documentation required for software.
