Case Western Reserve University Research Assistant 1 in Cleveland, Ohio

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Working under close supervision, performing in vitro and in vivo assessment of immunotherapies and MRI of mice. This position will work with animals.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Perform research work in medical and related technical areas involves use of lab skills. Perform in vitro experiments with immune cells to analyze the functions of immune cells. (20%) 
  2. Develop mouse tumor models and treat the mice with immunotherapies. (20%)
  3. Maintain records of experiments. Perform MRI of tumor bearing mice treated with immunotherapy. (30 %) 
  4. Conduct analysis of samples. Conduct analysis of organ and tissue samples from the treated mice. (10%) 
  5. Record results for a particular experiment or closely related series of experiments. Record and maintain results and records for the in vitro and in vivo experiments. (5%)
  6. Maintain test equipment utilized in experiments. (5%)
  7. Order laboratory supplies (5%)

     

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform other duties as assigned (5%). 

 

CONTACTS

Department: Daily contact with supervisor to maintain workflow (40%).

University: Occasional contact with the collaborators in other departments to share information (5%).

External: Limited contact with vendors to exchange information for orderings (2%).

Students: Contact with student employees to exchange information (53%).

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY 

This position has no direct supervision of staff employees.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in science and 0 to 1 year experience or Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program and 0 to 2 years of experience required.  At least 1 year of experience and in immunotherapy, MRI, and drug delivery preferred.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS 

1.. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within immunotherapy and biomedical engineering. 

  1. Ability and experience to perform cell culture.
  2. Ability and experience to handle mice.
  3. Ability and experience to operate scientific instrument, e.g. MRI scanner.
  4. Ability to interact with colleagues and supervisors face to face.
  5. Must demonstrate compliance with CWRU animal research and care (ARC) policies and procedures and compliance to regulations of the Animal Welfare Act, Public Health Service Policy, AAALAC guidelines and other applicable regulatory guidelines. 
  6. Must demonstrate compassion for animals within CWRU facilities and dedication to the Animal Resource Center¿s mission. Must handle animals with care and respect at all times.
  7. Previous experience working with animals preferred. 
  8. Must be able and willing to learn new techniques, procedures, processes and computer gear to protect the health of the animals.Maintain a high standard of personal cleanliness and utilize protective gear to protect the health the animals.

     

WORKING CONDITIONS

General laboratory environment.
