Apply for Job Job ID 12732 Location Case Main Campus Full/Part Time Full-Time Regular/Temporary Regular Add to Favorite Jobs Email this Job Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE The Import/Export and Quality Assurance Coordinator is a member of the Animal Resource Center (ARC) Veterinary Services team and provides direct support to the ARC veterinarians, principal investigators and research staff in the areas of animal health, and quality assurance programs. Quality control prevents the inadvertent introduction of infectious agents into pathogen free barrier rodent colonies. In the import/export role, the quality assurance coordinator regularly communicates with scientists, veterinarians and animal facility personnel around the world to ensure the safe and appropriate transport of valuable unique lines of rodents and to safeguard the health status of Animal Resource Center colony rodents. The Import/Export and Quality Assurance Coordinator works closely with the veterinary technicians on team projects. This position is subject to compliance regulations of the Animal Welfare Act, Public Health Service Policy, AAALAC guidelines, the State of Ohio Veterinary Practice Act, Federal Drug Enforcement Administration regulatory guidelines, US Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine regulations and other applicable regulatory guidelines. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Nonstandard Vendor import (NSV) coordination: process NSV import orders, health status reports and interface with the sending institution's receiving/sending principal investigator. Obtain veterinary authorization for NSV shipment and handle associated billing. Process NSV Export forms and send out health reports to receiving institutions. Contact the shipping company, prepare and send off shipment. Maintain EXPORT spreadsheet. (30%) Perform pre- and post-sanitization cultures of stationary housing equipment (runs and pens). Culture water from automatic waterers (including dog and large animal) for bacterial contamination. (8%) Breeding Colony maintenance. Set up and maintain rodent breeding colonies for research staff. Provide back up of rodent overcrowding separation. (9%) Provide oviduct harvest/IP hormone injections for the Transgenic Core. (7%) Provide frog tank water quality assurance testing. (6%) Monitor and record Quality Assurance results for cage washers and autoclaves (including surgery autoclave) and promptly notify appropriate ARC management members of Quality Assurance failures. Maintain computerized records of autoclave Quality Assurance. (6%) Perform quarterly rodent disease surveillance testing (serology, parasitology, bacteriology, PCR) for all ARC rodent housing rooms. Perform in-house laboratory analysis for including but not limited to fecal floatation, pinworm preparations, mite exams, UA, and Limited Hematology. Prepare and send out laboratory specimens as assigned. Prepare quarterly in house disease surveillance report. (24%) Audit all ARC controlled drugs on the first business day of each month. Assist with disbursement of controlled substances in accordance with Drug Enforcement Agency guidelines and all applicable governing regulatory guidelines. Maintain and monitor compliance to ARC and applicable regulatory policies and procedures, including but not limited to animal welfare, animal safety, human safety, prescription drugs and controlled substances. (8%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform other duties as assigned.
