GE Aerospace Data Transfer Systems Applications Engineer in Clearwater, Florida

Job Description Summary

This role is at the forefront of industry facing technical leadership in our Data Transfer Systems (DTS) product area. Often referred to as a Technical Sales Support role, an applications engineer's purpose is to develop and cultivate technical relationships within industry by participating in technical committees, conventions, representing the customer's perspective in internal design reviews. This role is the primary contributor/technical leader for responding to Requests for Proposals for the Data Transfer Systems product area. Also to guide the technology roadmap for all DTS products and related technologies. This role will also support technical design and development tasks within the DTS product portfolio of projects on an as needed basis as time permits.

This Onsite/Hybrid position in Clearwater, FL (primary location) or Grand Rapids, MI requires 2-3 days per week in the office.

This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Job Description

To be successful in this role:

  1. Someone with 10+ years experience with several years’ experience in Data Transfer or related technical complexity like aircraft .

  2. Hands on experience in design and development in Avionics.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Customer Applications Engineering role responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, lead and grow new technology concepts with strategic impact focused on Data Transfer systems and related products/technologies.

  • Lead the development of technical volumes for proposal responses.

  • Develop Data Transfer Technology roadmaps to support the business and industry needs.

  • Provide design and development expertise to the DTS portfolio of projects, helping to define design directions, architectures and solve problems.

  • Form and cultivate industry relationships through participation in standard setting committees and technical symposiums.

  • Influence key technical decision makers in ways that are favorable to GE's product and services strategy.

  • Provide VOC (voice of customer) during internal design reviews and proposal responses.

  • Assist in the establishment of should cost values for engineering cost estimates.

  • Contribute to technical value proposition development.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, aeronautics or related technical or scientific field of study from an accredited university or college.

  • At least 8-10 years of experience in engineering design and development.

  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

  • This Onsite/Hybrid position in Clearwater, FL (primary location) or Grand Rapids, MI requires 2-3 days per week in the office. Clearwater, FL is the preferred location. A comprehensive corporate relocation package is available.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Prior hands-on experience with the design and development of a Data Transfer Systems product.

  • A minimum experience of completing at least one full design life cycle of a DTS product.

  • Ability to provide hands on design expertise to DTS projects in systems, software and hardware areas.

  • Hardware or Systems Design background or experience.

  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills.

  • Good business acumen; able to tactfully navigate industry meetings in a way that successfully influences GE outcomes.

  • Military experience desirable.

  • Highly motivated, clear thinker; ability to operate at both a systems and product level to connect technical decisions to business outcomes.

  • Analytical people person with strong influencing skills; values relationships and able to build rapport.

  • Strong understanding of internal business operations; ability to navigate our process efficiently.

  • Curious and capable of learning our Data Transfer Systems products.

  • Established industry network.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.

  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
