This position is eligible for a Hybrid work schedule (3 or more days on site a week) and will be based out of our Clarksville, TN location.

This Senior Mechanical Engineer – Airflow role is a key member of the product development team which works closely with other teams, such as product management and operations, to create competitive designs for Trane Commercial Unitary Packaged and Split System equipment to meet the needs of demanding customers such as big box retail, schools and restaurants. The selected individual must have the skills needed to lead product design projects, supervise product validation testing, drive to root cause for quality and reliability issues, interpret technical agency standards and conduct projects in accordance with standard engineering practices.

Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):

  • Lead project team or sub-team in the development, testing, and sustaining of Unitary products, with a focus on fans, motors, and air-movement technologies.

  • Review and understand the technical feasibility of product and internal requirements.

  • Lead concept generation, selection, testing, analysis and interface optimization working closely with Subject Matter Experts and other subsystems engineers.

  • Work closely with design team to create/generate models, assemblies, and drawings for experimental components, subsystems and other mechanical assemblies.

  • Drive Standard Work discipline through process development, documentation, and implementation.

  • Design and select robust and cost-effective components and developing engineering specifications.

  • Develop laboratory test plans and analyze test data to ensure product performance and quality.

  • Use appropriate six-sigma, design for reliability, lean and corrective action systems such as FRACAS.

  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically approximately 5-10%.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 5 years of industry experience is required.

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.

Essential Skills/Knowledge (Mentoring will be provided):

  • Project team leadership including ability to translate market requirements into product concepts, test plan development, schedule creation and tracking execution to plan.

  • Understanding of cooling and heating system functions including combustion, heat transfer, airflow and thermal stresses (a plus).

  • Understanding of basic refrigeration (a plus).

  • Experience within Product Test Labs and testing processes (UL, ETL, and AHRI etc.).

  • Working knowledge of the application of computer simulation tools, such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

  • Familiarity with ANSI, CSA, ASHRAE and DOE requirements.

  • Familiarity with managing projects and fluent in MS Office applications.

  • Clear verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work seamlessly across functions and at multiple levels of the organization.

  • Excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Good teamwork skills, strong interpersonal skills and decision-making ability.

  • Ability to complete tasks/deliverables in a multi-tasking environment (several concurrent assignments) on time.

  • Ability to quickly and efficiently understand and organize information necessary to make engineering decisions.

Base Compensation Range is $­­64,000 to $112,300
