Registered Nurse (RN-CN1 ONA) Operating Room-Novice UC Health is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Operating Room-Novice Cohort at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Have you always wanted to join the Operating room? If you are a new graduate or an experienced RN without prior operating room experience, the novice program is for you! The Novice Program is a 6-months program designed to prepare registered nurses for their new role in the Operating Room. During this time, registered nurses will complete orientations, classroom work, simulations, and begin working with preceptors through the different service lines rotations. Service lines include: ortho, plastics, burns, podiatry, ENT, neuro, eye, oral, transplant, vascular, GI, robotics, GYN, thoracic, trauma, and general surgery. Upon completion, RNs will be able to function independently in the circulating and scrub role for the Operating Room. Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Associates of Science Degree, required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred
  • Current OH RN License
  • OR and/or Perioperative experience, preferred

Job Responsibilities The Registered Nurse (RN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age-specific.

  • Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the time frame indicated by unit's standards of practice.
  • Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care, and demonstrates ability to establish priorities of care based on patient's assessment and needs.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.
  • Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance to hospital policy and procedure.
  • Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.
