General Summary

We have a great opportunity available for you to join our Plant Leadership Team as a Maintenance Manager , a highly visible and impactful leadership role. The Plant Leadership Team is responsible for creating work environments that attract, develop, and retain the best talent available linked directly to customers. Among other things listed below, the PLT is charged with: maintaining a safe work environment; delivering world-class quality and delivery performance in the most cost-effective manner; and relentlessly pursuing strategically-aligned continuous improvements.

This leadership position supports two Cincinnati-based manufacturing plants (Blue Ash, Sharonville). You will oversee the region’s maintenance programs by identifying, prioritizing, and leading continuous improvements. You will lead and supervise the Maintenance Team to provide outstanding customer service while providing a safe, high quality, team-oriented atmosphere. You must be a results-oriented leader who can build strong working relationships and function effectively at all levels of the organization. You must be technically competent and be able to collaborate and work effectively with not only the maintenance technicians, but also contractors, shop floor personnel, engineers and supply chain management.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead direct reports in daily activities and recurring activities (e.g., performance management and associate development plans) across three shifts, supporting 24/5, 24/7, and 8/5 shifts

  • Direct short-term and long-term maintenance activities for North American facilities

  • Utilize Maintenance Connection Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to define, achieve, and maintain plant, property, and equipment standards that enable us to improve standards in maintenance planning, administration, and execution.

  • Make decisions and solve problems using sound, inclusive reasoning, and judgment

  • Establish leading and lagging key performance indicators related to strategy, business objectives, and key results for routine review in daily direction setting team meetings

  • Interact (e.g., engage, coach, support, influence) with immediate team and cross-functional teams with varying expertise (e.g., quality, engineering, operations, research & development) and varying levels (e.g., frontline associates, senior managers) within organization, working toward strategically important objectives and key results

  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors of varying expertise to maintain plant, property, and equipment.

  • Maintain plant, property, and equipment and records associated with internal requirements and/or external certifications (e.g., ISO)

Additional Responsibilities

  • Create annual budgets, investigate variances, and take appropriate corrective action

  • Demonstrated ability to use software applications, inclusive of productivity applications (e.g., Microsoft Office) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) technologies

  • Develop/co-develop and execute operating strategies, plans, policies, and/or procedures to achieve business objectives and key results

  • Exercise a customer focused philosophy when performing tasks for various components of the Company

  • Instruct vendors or contractors on maintenance and safety guidelines, testing procedures, or ways to eliminate deficiencies and review and approve work plans submitted by contractors.

  • Maintain knowledge of current developments in area of expertise (e.g., research, journals, trade magazines, training courses, certifications, ongoing professional development, etc.).

  • Maintain open communication with internal customers

  • Partner with the EHS to provide oversight of LOTO, electrical safety, confined space, hot work, car seal, and other regulations to maintain plant, property, and equipment

  • Perform ‘hands on’ mechanical and electrical functions when needed

  • Produce and present information and reports in oral and written formats in an easy-to-understand manner

  • Represent the Maintenance Department in Management of Change (MOC) process, including design reviews, PHAs, PSSRs, etc.

  • Request purchase orders and approve invoices.

  • Specify, order, and inventory spare parts.

  • Work in conjunction with Engineering Manager to oversee completion of small and medium sized capital projects within established stage gate process

Other

  • Climb stairs and stand for extended periods of time, and safely lift up to 50 lbs

  • Able to perform equipment maintenance tasks that may require bending, stooping, laying down or working from elevated platforms

  • Able to use full range of motion with arms, hands and fingers to reach, grasp, hold, push/pull, twist, and work with tools

  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time

  • Able to safely operate a forklift

  • Able to work outside when required

Critical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience utilizing a CMMS (Computerized maintenance management software) for task documentation

  • Knowledge of Lockout Tagout (LOTO) and confined space entry requirements

  • Proven ability to think independently as part of a team and handle project from conception to completion

  • Proficient in standard business office software

  • Good oral, and written communications skills and has the ability to teach maintenance skills

Education and Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in plant maintenance operations

  • At least 3 years in a managerial role

  • B.S. Engineering degree preferred; will consider other technical degrees and certifications in lieu of B.S. Engineering

  • Proficient in instrumentation including flow meters, level sensors, pressure sensors, load cells

  • Experience with motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), starters, power supplies, and transformers

  • Experience with batch mixing tanks, pressure vessels, extruders, conveyors, boilers, compressors, and general building repair

  • Experience in food and pharma regulated industries preferred

Work Hours

Michelman’s standard work hours for this role are Monday – Friday from 7 am – 4 pm EST.
