Headend Technician - Client Engineering
The Headend Technician will be responsible for acquiring, configuring, processing and distributing all Television feeds received in our Nielsen Data Centers. The Satellite Technician will need to track all changes of equipment, technology, and Network configurations and provide clear documentation of SOPs and contact information. This position will require direct contact with Client technical and operations personnel to troubleshoot and authorize technology and support all incoming phone calls, emails, and tickets for the Satellite Solutions team.
Responsibilities:
Work in collaboration with our Clients’ engineering teams:
C Band/ KU band Satellite signal Distribution and monitoring
DISH/DirecTV (small Satellite) signal distribution and monitoring
IP technology signal distribution and monitoring
Setup and configuration of Client satellite and IP broadcast equipment for ingestion into Nielsen-managed network equipment.
Configuration and documentation of Signal transcoding equipment used for distribution into the Nielsen Cloud, and compression equipment used for processing specific broadcast specification signals.
Troubleshooting all Satellite and IP signals, network hardware, satellite equipment, Transcoding/Compression equipment, and Monitoring systems to ensure signal integrity
Configuration and data distribution in the Nielsen network to all Nielsen monitoring platforms.
Manage and communicate technical aspects of new system distribution platforms to support Clients’ requirements as technology evolves.
Acquire and maintain continuity of content for satellite-based IP networks, including video, audio, and data
Ensure that the content meets the required quality standards, including resolution, frame rate, and compression
Work with other members of the team to develop and implement new content delivery systems
Monitor and troubleshoot signal and content acquisition issues, and work to resolve them in a timely manner
Work with external content providers to ensure that their content is delivered correctly and meets the required quality standards
Develop, maintain, and share documentation for content delivery systems and processes
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices, and make recommendations for improvements to content delivery systems and processes
Provide technical support and assistance to other team members as needed
Requirements:
Experience with C-Band, Ku-Band, and small dish satellite systems
Experience with IP network protocols and configurations for successful integration and processing of data
Experience with Google Suite and MS tools as well as the ability to work with Client / 3rd party configuration software
Experience with television broadcast equipment, signal path diagrams, broadcast equipment configurations, and troubleshooting is required
Knowledge of audio and video specs, multicast technology, and signal distribution is required.
Knowledge of Signal processing test equipment, IP Sniffer, and other technical support systems
Experience working with satellite-based IP networks and content delivery systems
Strong understanding of video and audio encoding and compression standards
Experience with content management systems
Experience with content delivery protocols such as SRT, UDP, HLS, and RPD, etc
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Strong communication skills: interpersonal, telephone, email, virtual, and in-person interactions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Willingness to learn new tasks, maintain focus, recall, and follow instructions
Set up, operate, and maintain electronic equipment
Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Preferred:
CompTIA A+ or Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or equivalent certification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
C-Band Satellite tuning/repair Certifications
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 35 pounds
Ability to use power and hand tools
Ability to climb a 25-foot ladder, scaffolding
Ability to duck, crawl, bend, and twist
Ability to visually inspect equipment
Wear tool belt and tools weighing around 15 pounds
Environmental Aspects:
Occasional outdoor work in hot, cold, damp conditions
Able to work at heights
Able to work in confined spaces

A reasonable estimate hourly range for a new employee to be offered this role would be between $14.40-$48.10 which would be adjusted based on each employee's geographic location. The position of each employee within a compensation range at Nielsen is dependent on several individual circumstances, such as experience, training, certifications and other business requirements/needs
