About the Department

The Molecular Imaging and Theranostics (MI&T) Research Group in the Department of Radiology is searching for a staff scientist to join the nuclear medicine and molecular imaging instrumentation laboratory in MI&T Group, which has a long history of developing novel imaging instruments and devices. The appointee will initially conduct academic research in collaboration with a faculty member or team, participating in one or more of the ongoing research projects on positron emission tomography (PET) imaging systems. We seek applicants with expertise and experience in radiation detection technologies, PET instrumentation, as well as related physics and computing methodologies. Candidates with experience in handling intellectual properties, technology transfer and commercialization are especially welcome.

This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.

Job Summary

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop innovative radiation detection technologies, including the use of computer simulation tools.
  • Design and develop the relevant digital electronics and circuits.
  • Design and develop general-purpose and application-specific PET systems and related devices.
  • Design and develop the relevant computing, processing, and analysis algorithms, software, and other tools.
  • Characterizing the performance of the prototype systems, devices, and computing related methods.
  • Preparing documentation for filing relevant intellectual properties protection, and participating in the related technology transfer and commercialization.
  • Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.
  • Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.
  • Creates first drafts for scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.
  • Trains and mentors laboratory personnel.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • Experience in radiation detection technologies.
  • Experience in designing and developing PET and/or SPECT instrumentation.
  • Experience in developing and/or using radiation detectors, photodetectors, pulse-height analyz rs, wave-form samplers, digital and analog circuits, special processors, and system integration.
  • Experience in developing and/or image reconstruction, processing, and analysis algorithms and software.
  • Experience in assessment of PET and/or SPECT system performance characteristics.
  • Involvements and experience in technology transfer and commercialization.

Preferred Competencies

  • Radiation detection, measurements, and safety experience and expertise.
  • General knowledge, experience, and expertise in PET imaging.
