DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Parole Agent 1, you will learn how to counsel inmates in correctional institutions to prepare them for parole hearings that will lead to their release and re-entry into the community. You can expect to prepare and initiate pre-parole investigations, review inmate cases for domestic violence history, complete sex offender registration when necessary, and aid in other parole-related processes. In this position, you conduct orientation for newly committed offenders to inform them of pre-parole services. You also conduct parole education classes to educate inmates about the parole process. Additionally, you will act as a point of contact for inmates, their families, government agencies, and the public. Please note, successful completion of your 12-month training/probationary period will result in a promotion to Parole Agent 2 with an increase in salary!

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, 40 hours per week Work schedule and hours are to be determined. Holidays and weekends as required. You must be willing to travel. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Four years of paraprofessional experience which includes two years of paraprofessional social services, human services, corrections, or law enforcement experience; or Two years of paraprofessional social services, human services, corrections, or law enforcement experience, and an associate's degree;or A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, legal studies, political science, behavioral science, or a related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirements: All positions require possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C driver's license or equivalent. All employees must obtain CLEAN certification within two months of employment and maintain this certification for the duration of employment in this job.

Other Requirements: You must meet the PA residency requirement. For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, follow the link and click on Residency. You must successfully complete a training program at the Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA that is up to nine (9) weeks. You must participate in training programs including firearms, defensive tactics, and personal safety techniques. You must be willing to wear, carry, and use protective devices such as ballistic vests and pepper spray. You will work independently and encounter potentially dangerous situations working in neighborhoods, offenders' homes, and prisons. You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements: You must pass a background investigation. A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening. A conditional offer of employment will require Act 57 cl arance.
