Description: The Electric Motor Winder / Mechanical Assembler is responsible for winding of large DC torque motors, generators, armatures, rotors, transformers, magnet and brake coils and related electrical components. Brazing and soldering of copper, aluminum, steel, etc. Verification of applicable winds by core loss, hi pot, phase balance, rotational direction, meg-ohm and similar testing. Documentation of pre and post testing data.

Skills / Responsibilities include but not limited to:


  • Ability to assemble parts from subcomponents for motors following drawings, work instructions and in-process inspection requirements.
  • Assemble a stator winding. Task include, but not limited to: operation of equipment to make subcomponents (winder, press, cleat), cut and wind wire, insulate, impregnation (chamber) buff, paint, and test the parts.
  • Wind, assemble, and install different types of coils for electric motors and transformers.
  • Capable of brazing or soldering electrical connections/components.
  • Inspect and assess products to determine if re-work or repairs are necessary.
  • Use soldering equipment to perform thru-hole, surface mount or hard soldering.
  • Assemble and fit metal and other pre-made parts according to blueprints to build heavy-duty electric motors or transformers.
  • Position, align parts and fasten units to assemblies and subassemblies using fixtures, jigs and templates.
  • Connect and install electrical wiring and harnesses.
  • Measure dimensions/clearance of parts to determine tolerances using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers and veneers.
  • Cutting, striping and bending wire leads at ends of coils using applicable tools.
  • Tapping coil and end windings to shape
  • Test for mechanical reliability to ensure that unit meets specifications, tolerances and customer order requirements.
  • Significant mechanical knowledge and/or experience
  • Highly motivated self-performer with good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Basic math skills; algebra a plus
  • Maintains and upholds established standards of quality, productivity and attendance.
  • Performs other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
