How You’ll Make an Impact

• Setup and operate conventional and CNC rotor shaft lathes

• Perform various machining operations on a variety of components from large nuclear to industrial single stage rotors

• Work with Manufacturing Engineers to troubleshoot and problem solve

Your profile

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree or trade school certificate is preferred.

• 6+ years of CNC milling / drilling experience

• A basic knowledge of machine shop operations together with the ability to understand complex drawings, specifications, charts, and tables.

• Ability to use various types of precision measuring instruments.

• Ability to obtain fork truck and crane license. Previous experience is preferred.

• Successful applicants must be able to pass standard hearing, vision, and pulmonary function tests.

• Must also be able to read, write, understand, and follow verbal and/or written instructions in English.

• Must be able to live and work legally in the United States.

Your responsibilities

• Mill and drill features on large electrical generator rotor shafts, which are typically made from 50 to 70-ton high alloy steel forgings.

• Manufacture a variety of alloy steel generator components and in-house tools using CNC machine tools and, occasionally, manual machine tools.

• Set up and operate one or more of the following machine tools: Ingersoll CNC Floor-Type Horizontal Boring Mill (19.5 meter travel), Giddings & Lewis FTR3500 CNC Floor-Type Horizontal Boring Mill (4 meter travel), Giddings & Lewis FTR5000 CNC Floor-Type Horizontal Boring Mill (14 meter travel), Ingersoll CNC Gantry-Type Multi-Spindle Mill, and Mazak CNC 5-axis machining center with PALLETECH system, as well as various manual drills and mills.

• Teach and/or mentor employees in the Siemens Energy Apprenticeship Program.

• Engage in continuous improvement by applying 5S methodology as a component of a Lean production system.

The Large Generator Rotor Operations team is responsible for manufacturing large electric generator rotors weighing up to 200 tons. We operate within the Large Generator team to supply new 150 – 1000 megawatt generators to power plants all over the world. In addition to manufacturing new rotors, we also service generator rotors by providing inspections, rewinds, modernizations, and upgrades.
