Engineering Director - Advanced Technology (Onsite)

The Engineering Director role reporting to the Executive Director of Collins Aerospace Mission Systems Advanced Technology & Capabilities (ATC) Engineering, is responsible for leading the Communications & Navigation Technologies Engineering organization within ATC, as well as the overall technical management of the planning and execution of company and customer-funded research and development projects.

As a key member of the ATC engineering leadership team, the candidate will be responsible for providing technical and administrative leadership to a multi-functional department comprised of systems, hardware, and software engineers. The engineers under your cognizance form research teams, led by a principal investigator, to develop new innovations to support the business. They do this primarily through IR&D and the pursuit of external funding, often from US Government laboratories like DARPA, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the Office of Naval Research.

Specific lead responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, providing the oversight and guidance for systems specific tasks which consist of pursuit work, requirements analysis & trade studies, architecture definition, research goals, and monitoring of the project performance, outcomes, and technology transition agreements.

In addition to project related activities, engineering management responsibilities include planning, organizing, resource allocation, conducting performance reviews, and overall administrative management responsibilities for their leadership team and staff.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 14 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 12 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 18 years of relevant experience is required

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret or higher security clearance is required prior to start date

  • Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, as well as customers.

  • Candidates must be capable of developing and effectively conveying the technical approach to customers (especially Science & Technology customers), senior engineering management, value stream leadership, and business development.

  • Experience working with pursuit-order-capture process is a required.

  • This position requires occasional domestic and international travel.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience and formal education in communications and navigation technologies are necessary. Candidates must also ensure engineering and program management are aligned in technical and staffing expectations to ensure pursuits are captured and programs can be successfully executed.

  • Candidates must have demonstrated leadership capabilities to engage and motivate their researcher workforce and develop their direct staff as leaders.

  • A significant portion of the responsibilities for this position include pursuit and execution of various government communications and navigation programs, both domestic and international.

  • The position requires a close working relationship with both the value stream managers, business development, and engineering teams. As such, applicant must have both strong interpersonal skills and a strong, broad-based technical competency.

The salary range for this role is 171,000 USD - 343,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
