SUMMARY

This is an entry level welding role for establishing the skills of 1stlevel welders. It is expected most individuals hired into this position will proceed to Welder 1 level after 90 days or less. A successful candidate is self-motivated and utilizes a strong work ethic to ensure all quality levels are met and career progression is established.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Regular and punctual attendance at work is an essential job function of each position and is necessary to your individual effectiveness and that of your work group. Regular and punctual attendance is required of all employees.

  • Safely operates and performs SMAW, GMAW or SAW duties.

  • Assists Welder 1 and 2 in fit up, grinding, cutting and equipment setup.

  • Assists in layout of tanks and pressure vessel parts.

  • Assists assigned mentor as necessary.

  • Inspects and welds all parts ensuring there are no welding flaws, discontinuities, or defects with mentor-s guidance.

  • Completes 90-day checklist.

  • Complies with the 5 As of performance (Attendance, Attitude, Adaptability, Accident-free and Accountability).

  • Follows all safety policies and procedures.

  • Requests tests for weld qualification and training for WI Weld Quality System.

  • Organizes work area with instruction from group leaders to make welds and vessel lay-outs in a timely manner to meet production demands.

  • Sets up welding machine to MIG or Flux Core wire as needed to meet production and quality standards.

  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Welding Certificate and/or 0-6 months of previous welding experience or equivalent knowledge.

  • Must be able to pass weld skill pre-employment assessment.

  • Practice and pass basic ASME welder performance qualification tests.

  • Intermediate math skills and ability to read a tape measure required.

  • Must be able to distinguish between part numbers and sizes.

  • Must be able to count and label parts accurately.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, up to entire length of shift.

  • Must be able to handle physical, repetitive work.

  • Must be able to exert moderate to heavy physical effort with lifting requirement up to 50 pounds.

  • Must have a strong range of motion.

  • Must be able to sit, stand, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and bend.

  • Must be able to see, speak, and hear.

  • Must be able to read instructions and all measuring devices.

  • Must use fingers and hands to manipulate tools and small parts.

  • Must be able to walk over both even and uneven surfaces.

  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE.

  • Must be physically able to access all areas of the plant and grounds.

  • Some aspects of this position may require working in tight quarters.

  • Some aspects of this position may require close vision, depth perception, the ability to see small detail, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Minimum $17 per hour.
