UL, LLC Systems & Calibration Technician in Carugate, Italy

We are seeking a Systems & Calibration Technician who is motivated to develop their career in the TIC (Testing, Inspection & Certification) industry. Our Laboratory & Operations team in Carugate support our engineering teams with their test activities by providing technical expertise on all laboratory equipment, including calibration, set-up, verification, fabrication and maintenance & repair. The team is being developed to enable them to support all of our different business units in Carugate, including teams that perform tests for our appliances, HVAC & lighting customers, as well as consumer and medical devices and energy & industrial automation customers.

This is a varied role, working with a huge range of tools, devices and systems and calibrating many different types of tests. No two days are the same and you will get to work with a wide range of different Lab Technicians, Engineers and of course customers in Carugate, helping to ensure they can perform their tests effectively. Full training will be given, as well as benefiting from a large support network of experienced team members around you to help your career evolve. Due to the nature of our testing in customer facilities, it is expected that you will need to travel up to 25% of the time each year.

  • Works to improve existing laboratory tests and processes by identifying and applying new laboratory instrumentation, automation and test fixtures

  • Operates designated laboratory equipment and tools as directed.

  • Responds to user requests to repair and/or modify existing laboratory instrumentation, automated systems and test fixtures.

  • As applicable, records observed or calculated data on appropriate UL forms as the record of laboratory support activities. May plan laboratory support activities, and evaluate results, as directed.

  • Builds, installs, tests and validates new instrumentation, automated systems and test fixtures for laboratory tests and processes to ensure they meet technical and user requirements.

  • Ensures both new and existing test systems meet safety requirements and compliance with the local laws.

  • Updates and maintains automation hardware and/or software as needed.

  • Prepares technical documentation such as manual instructions for hardware and software, calibration procedures, test method validations, etc.

  • Advises and trains others on the use of laboratory instrumentation, automated systems and test fixtures,.

  • Assists in developing annual budgetary goals, capital expenditure budget for laboratory equipment, and tactical plans for the assigned laboratory section.

  • Proactively seeks automation opportunities to resolve complex testing issues.

  • Ensures customer convenient solutions meet both customer and company needs.

  • Defines the engineering units, ranges, and/or acceptance criteria of instruments to be externally calibrated based on manufacturer’s equipment specifications, standard requirements and/or accreditations. Checks, verifies and accepts calibration certificates from external calibration service provider(s)

  • Operates a computer to extract/input readily available information and to use available software.

  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.

  • Read and follow the UL Standards of Business Conduct, and follow all physical and digital security practices

  • Technical College / High School Diploma in a relevant technical field, e.g. electronics, telecommunications

  • Driven to achieve results

  • Excellent communicator in both English and Italian

  • Valid drivers license
