Job Title: Estimator Reports To: Estimating Supervisor

Job Objectives: This job requires the various tasks associated with the estimating of various types of jobs and carrying assigned projects through from bid to completion of construction.

Essential Job Functions:

  • To complete all delegated assignments from Estimating Supervisor.

  • To discuss all bids with Estimating Supervisor.

  • To review Dodge Report and other periodicals, in order to determine what projects plans to order.

  • To perform project take-offs and specification review.

  • To complete bid checklist and gather information i.e. subcontractor pricing, materials, permits, etc.

  • To prepare bids in HCSS.

  • To fill out and deliver bid books.

  • To maintain a spreadsheet showing past/completed bids and projects.

  • To be able to set up project budgets and track how we are performing versus budget.

  • To look at and prepare estimates for small jobs.

  • To setup jobs with Contract Administrator.

  • To provide bid information to project managers in detailing project: coding, processes, materials, water, quantities, etc.

  • To work as a team with operations, in order to successfully complete projects.

  • To meet with Project Owners, Engineers, Inspectors, P.M.’s as needed in order to successfully complete projects.

  • To assist Estimating Supervisor in oversight of: Project managers.

  • To attend pre-construction and pre-bid meetings as needed.

  • To field customer, employee, and third party complaints.

  • To call on customers.

  • To attend all mandatory meetings.

    Strength: Sedentary. This job involves exerting up to ten pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. This position involves sitting most of the time with brief periods of walking or standing.

    Standing: Occasionally. Requires the ability to walk, primarily on flat surfaces, up to one hundred feet at a time to assess on-site locations. This is sometimes performed while taking measurements.

    Crouching: Occasionally. Requires the ability to crouch while painting markings on the ground.

    Pushing: Occasionally. Requires the ability to push a five-pound measuring wheel across flat terrain up to 100 feet at a time.

    Reaching: Frequently. Requires the ability to reach in front of the body primarily for large document review. Also, must be able to reach to obtain measuring device from vehicle.

    Handling: Frequently. Requires the ability to turn pages, work a measuring and paint.

    Fingering: Occasionally. Requires the ability to work on a keyboard or perform calculations on a calculator.

    Talking: Continuously. Requires the ability to verbally communicate to others.

    Hearing: Continuously. Requires the ability to communicate by phone or in person to others.

    Near acuity : Frequent. Requires clarity of vision twenty inches or less to review documents.

Equipment used to perform job:

  • Clothing provided by employee: Suitable “professional” clothing in order to project a positive image to customers and suppliers, and Steel toed-shoes.

  • Safety equipment provided by employer: Safety vest, hardhat, hearing protection, safety glasses.

  • Other Equipment: telephone, cellular telephone, computer, calculator, measuring wheel.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities used to perform job (in addition to above):

  • Advanced reading. (Ability to understand, written specifications contract documents, laws, etc.)
