Substance Abuse Counselor Intern (CV141-1) - Reentry Services Division

$16/Hr to $17.75/Hr, together with benefits package.

The position of Substance Abuse Counselor Intern shall report to the Director of Substance Abuse Counseling. They will be part of the treatment team. The Substance Abuse Counselor Intern performs a treatment function and is the primary provider of clinical services to clients. This position maintains accountability for the client as established through the funding source, and according to agency Policy. The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for conducting risk/needs assessments and developing service plans for all clients assigned to their caseload, and implementing those plans subject to review by the Treatment Team and/or approval of the Director of Substance Abuse Counseling. The Successful Candidate in this position must meet the following qualifications: Does not have a LCADC or CADC certification and shall: i. Be enrolled in a course of study leading to certification as a LCADC or CADC; ii. Receive in-service training; iii. Be trained and evaluated before being assigned counseling responsibilities iv. Make satisfactory progress towards certification, with such progress reviewed and documented by the Clinical Supervisor at least semiannually; v. Become credentialed within three years of the date of hire; Additional job-related skills include: working with addictive behaviors; a basic understanding of human behavior; and utilizing group dynamics to address special needs populations. The successful candidate must possess effective written and verbal communication skills, and have an ability to interact appropriately with clientele. Knowledge of social learning theory, cognitive-behavioral intervention and approaches is preferable. Skilled in assessment and evaluation, willingness to work flexible hours, which may include weekends and evenings, and demonstrated competencies in training, group interaction, and mentoring. Basic computer skills. The successful candidate must be able to pass criminal background clearance and drug screening. Must possess valid driver`s license and be able to meet VOA driver standards.
