If you love to talk to new people and be out in the community, then this role is for YOU! _ Primary Role_ We are looking for an outgoing and personable individual to join the New Jersey’s External Affairs team as a Community Outreach & Education intern. The ideal candidate should be pursuing a communication and/or related major and have an affinity for engaging with the public. This role will represent New Jersey American Water at community events and will report directly to both the Sr. Manager of Government and External Affairs and the External Affairs Specialist. _ Key Accountabilities_ * Coordinate activities for events to include working with vendors, community partners, and employees. * Represent New Jersey American Water by tabling at community events with educational information and public engagement activities. Materials to include information on water quality reports/expertise, lead service line replacement program, wise water use/conservation tips, and bill paying assistance programs, among other topics, as well as Business Development information in communities with active referendum campaigns this summer. * Make educational presentations to small and large groups within the communities we serve (schools, camps, community organizations, etc.). * Provide photography and written content from event appearances for customer facing outlets (social media, newsletters, etc.). * Giveaways/inventory tracking and event organization to support community event appearances. _ Knowledge/Skills_ * Strong demonstrated communications skills, specifically verbal communication and public presentation skills. * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. _ Experience/Education_ * The ideal candidate for this position is self-motivated, can work independently and is confident in public speaking. * This person is someone who can engage with people of all ages and backgrounds at various types of external events. * Must be flexible with hours, which would include early mornings, evenings, and weekends. * Customer service experience is a plus. * Candidates must be 18 years of age or older, have a high school degree or equivalent and be pursuing a postsecondary education in the fields of communications or environmental sciences preferred. _ Work Environment_ * This will be a part-time position that will run from June through August 24, 2024, and will include early mornings, evenings, and weekend hours. * This will include approximately 80% field work, to include driving personal vehicle, driving company vehicle, and working outdoors and 20% indoor office environment. * This role will average about 15-20 hours (2-3 days) per week and will pay $20.00 per hour. _ Work Location_ * South Jersey with reporting location in Camden Waterfront HQ. _ Physical Requirements_ * Position involves physical activity to include setting up event display, 10x10 tent for tabling and water station (igloo coolers); loading and unloading vehicle for community event set up. * Standing for long periods of time. * Ability to drive during daylight and nighttime hours. * Confidence in driving longer distances (1+ hours). _ Competencies_ * Champions safety * Customer obsessed * Cultivates innovation * Nimble learning * Drives Results * Collaborates * Join American Water...We Keep Life Flowing™ * American Water is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and prohibits employment discrimination for employees and applicants based on his or her age, race, color, pregnancy, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, marital status, citizenship, or because they are an individual with a disability, protected veteran or other status protected by federal, state, and local laws.
