Startec QC Inspector - Fabrication in Calgary, Alberta

Most of our solutions are related to Energy Transition and carbon reduction industries.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting a Quality Control Inspector to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6).  The QC Inspector plays a vital role in ensuring the precision, reliability, and meticulous inspections of fabricated parts, document findings, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to uphold quality standards and drive continuous improvement. The successful candidate will utilize their expertise in inspection methodologies, technical drawings interpretation to uphold the highest standards of quality throughout the fabrication process. By fulfilling this role, the QC Inspector contributes to the overall efficiency, safety, key results, and success of our production operations.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTIONS (Weighting 70%) Inspection of Fabricated Components

  • Conduct thorough inspections of fabricated components according to established standards and specifications (NDT, PWHT, Calibration)

  • Ensure that non-destructive and other examination have been performed to the degree specified by the contract, using qualified personnel and that results have been recorded.

  • Perform a final dimensional and visual inspection of pressure vessels and piping before PWHT/Hydrotest.

  • Inspect pressure vessels, structural skids base frames, and pressure piping systems being fabricated or already installed.

  • Identify and document any deviations from quality standards and report accordingly.

  • Create an inspection and test plan (ITP) based on the project requirements including the applicable standards.

    Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed records of inspection results, including measurements, observations, and any non-conformities.

  • Prepare manufacturer’s data record (MDR) for ASME stamped vessels and AB-83 for piping.

  • Consolidate punch lists for plant systems exception lists and provides tracking to ensure that all punch list items are captured and signed off for mechanical completion.

  • Prepare comprehensive inspection reports summarizing finds and recommendations for corrective actions.

  • Communicate inspection results effectively to supervisors, production teams, and other relevant departments.

  • Collaborate with various team members to implement corrective and preventative measures based on inspection findings.

  • Complete a full review of final hand-over documentation such as QA record book-site records, mechanical catalog book, and manual/data book, to ensure they comply with client requirements and contract.

    CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT (Weighting 30%) Process Improvement

  • Implement the QC manual & ITP and maintenance of standard procedures, WPS, and welder’s qualification

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing fabrication processes and quality standards.

  • Identify opportunities for efficiency gains and quality enhancements within the inspection process.

  • Propose and implement innovative solutions to streamline inspection procedures to reduce errors.

  • Provide feedback to production teams and management on areas for improvement based on inspection outcomes.

    Quality Assurance Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to all quality procedures, protocols, and standards throughout the fabrication process.

  • Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards relevant to fabrication operations.

  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, participating in audits, and addressing audit findings as needed.

  • Assist in the development and revision of quality procedures and work instructions as necessary.

    Training & Development

  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to quality control in fabrication.

  • Train new employees on inspection techniques, quality standards, and relevant procedures.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior inspectors to enhance their skills and knowledge.

  • Continuously develop personal expertise in fabrication inspection methodologies and technologies.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field is considered an asset

  • A minimum CWB Level 1 and/or AWS CWI

  • Must be familiar with ASME, ASTM, ABSA PESR, and CSA codes and standards but not limited to the following: ASME Sec, VIII Div. 1, ASME Sec II, ASME Sec. V, ASME Sec IX, ASME B31.3/B31.5, CSA B51/W59. API 510 and/or 570 would be cosidered an asset.

  • Proven experience as a quality control inspector in a fabrication environment.

  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in measurements and documentation.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams.

  • Familiarity with quality management systems (i.e. ISO 9001) and inspection methodologies.

  • Proficiency in using measurement tools and equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of quality controls.
