POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting a Material Handler to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6).  The Material Handler is responsible for ensuring efficient and seamless management of materials and inventory within the warehouse. Reporting to the Warehouse Supervisor, the Materials Handler will be responsible for the procurement, storage, and distribution of materials required for various projects, working closely with procurement teams, and project managers. This position requires a candidate with a strong understanding of P&IDs, pipefitting, and raw materials. The Materials Controller/ Receiver will focus on maintaining accurate inventory records, optimizing stock levels, and ensuring compliance with effective inventory control measures. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

MATERIAL HANDLING & CONTROL (Weighting 40%) P&ID Utilization

  • Demonstrate expertise in interpreting and applying information from Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to ensure accurate handling and storage of materials.

  • Collaborate with the engineering team to align material handling practices with project-specific requirements outlined in P&IDs.

    Pipefitting & Safety Compliance

  • Apply pipefitting knowledge to handle materials safely and efficiently, adhering to established safety standards and regulations.

  • Conduct regular safety assessments related to material handling processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.

      RAW MATERIALS MANAGEMENT (Weighting 30%) Structural Materials

  • Showcase in-depth knowledge of various raw materials, with a specific focus on structural materials commonly used in the industry.

  • Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure the availability of required structural materials, considering project timelines and specifications.

    Drawing Interpretation

  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications accurately to identify, locate, and handle raw materials in accordance with project requirements.

  • Provide feedback to the design and engineering teams regarding the practical implications and feasibility of material handling based on drawing interpretations.

    WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS & INVENTORY CONTROL (Weighting 20%) Efficient Warehouse Management

  • Leverage experience in warehouse operations to maintain an organized and efficient warehouse environment.

  • Implement best practices for material storage, issuance, and retrieval, optimizing workflow and minimizing downtime.

    Inventory Control

  • Conduct regular inventory checks, collaborating with the inventory control team to address discrepancies, and maintaining accurate inventory records.

  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, including stock levels, consumption, and replenishment schedules.

  • Monitor and manage inventory levels to optimize stock availability while minimizing carrying costs.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 3+ years of working experience in warehouse operations and materials management.

  • Forklift experience/certification.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.,).

  • Familiarity with inventory management software and systems.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
