Startec Apprentice Electrician (Night Shift) in Calgary, Alberta

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting an Apprentice Electrician to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6).  Electricians must possess the full range of knowledge required to install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems for a variety of purposes, including climate control, security, lighting, power sources and communications. Preference will be given to electricians who have industrial or commercial construction experience, Oil and Gas experience, Fabrication shop experience, a good track record of safety and high-quality workmanship. Shift Schedule - 4:30-2:20 (4 days/week,10 hours/day). Overtime is as required. 

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

INSTALLATION AND COMPLIANCE (Weighting 70%) Electrical System Diagnosis & Repair

  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.

  • Install, alter, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain various electrical systems and related equipment.

  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.

    Installation

  • Plan layout and illustration of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.

  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.

    SAFETY ASSURANCE (Weighting 30%) Technical Expertise & Compliance

  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards and defects, ensuring compliance with codes.

  • Read and interpret electrical and mechanical code specifications.

    Collaboration

  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and adhere to industry standards during installation and repair tasks.

  • Collaborate with engineers and other personnel to identify and implement solutions for electrical system improvements and modifications.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A valid certificate of qualification issued by the appropriate province of federal authority is required

  • Fabrication knowledge relevant to Oil & Gas equipment required

  • Must pass pre-employment Alcohol & Drug Test

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Proactive mindset geared towards safety

  • Basic Welding experience would be an asset

  • Heat Trace experience would be an asset

  • Must have experience with Rigid Conduit to apply
